Boxing vs MMA in a street fight

swedsteve - Chuck Lidel Phone Post
This is what I find interesting. Various MMA fighters like Chuck Liddell wouldn't even think about the taking the fight to the ground due to their ego, in which case a boxer would knock them the fuck out. Phone Post 3.0

MMALOGIC -

one good leg kick and the best boxer in the world will be crying "no mass".

By the time a kickboxer sets up for a leg kick....he will be lit the f up by the much faster weapons, PUNCHES.

One good left hook or straight right and the kickboxer/MMA guy won't be crying at all...he'll just be sleeping.

At the highest level Ernsto Hoost wouldn't finish Mike Tyson with "one leg kick" on the street.....Ernesto does go to sleep with one punch though. ZZZZZzzzzzzzzz....*

Soldier_of_fortune - Lol a MMA fighter has to use all his tools to beat a boxer in a street fight.

A Boxer just needs to use footwork and knock him out in 1 punch.

Go for a takedown and try n pass guard and im sure someone will kick your head in.

Boxing is the superior street fighting art.

You can even dominate karate/kick boxers, just stay right in there face and land hooks= Goodnight.

People forget boxing requires alot of clinch work too, Id take a good boxer 7/10 times in a street fight with confidence. the 3 times being GSP type lay n pray survival tactics, or alittle kimura win

Do boxers have special stretchy jeans that helps their footwork? unlike the limiting skinny jeans worn by Muay Thai fighters?

An average wrestler 9/10 times would beat the shit out of an above average boxer....Almost EVERY street fight ends up on the ground...Don't forget other people besides boxers can throw punches too.....

Boxing is king in the streets. Even guys who train MMA and are well rounded usually start street fights standing. They are also usually far more skilled standing than the average joe. When you don't know your opponent ad their respective skill set their normal advantage and comfort is a huge disadvantage.

By the time the MMA fighter realizes they ate severely outmatched striking is about the same time they have taken two or three clean shots to the dome with no gloves... It's over. Phone Post 3.0

DUTCH Muay Thai is the best for the street... since mma fighters use it I'd say mma is better Phone Post

It's simply unlikely a skilled MMA fighter would get in a street fight and take his opponent down of the bat. What's the point when you can knock him out with your striking skills and avoid getting your clothes dirty or risk getting kicked by others?

The problem is that in these scenarios the boxer would punish the MMA fighter for standing with him and more often than not knock him out before he realises he's not fighting some average joe and that a takedown is needed. Boxing is king in the street for the simple fact that all fights start standing and most in punching range.

By the way, people who say 99% of fights go to the ground don't know what their talking about. First of all most statistics are bullshit and second of all if the fights do go to the ground its because the guys fighting have no balance. Good boxers have shitloads of balance. Phone Post 3.0

SKARHEAD -
Doem - its hard to argue this one because people often mix the aspects of "no holds bar" street fighting and the concepts of "one and one" in the same argument

i say if you are 100% sure that its a one on one fight then you would still want to be mma. you have to plant your feet to throw a punch, you take away the boxers legs and he has lost his power, he goes to the ground and he has absolutly no orientation in which to defend himself. game over.

I love the assumption that all boxers are shitty streetfighters with no balance and really weak bases that fall over if you blow on them....Please. How many guys have shown up as a whitebelt in grappling class, and surprise surprise, they have a great natural base and sense of balance. Some guys are just naturally strong, solid, athletic, with a great innate sense of balance....some of these guys can punch hard.

And some of those guys learned how to box.

LOL @ some nerdy BJJ blue belt coming at one of these guys with his shitty takedown skills and Z level striking.
Why is it that because someone suggests grappling is maybe (just maybe) useful in a street fight they become a weedy, delusional, pathetic BJJ blue belt? Phone Post 3.0

No ones saying its not useful because it is very useful. It's just not as useful as boxing in the street. Phone Post 3.0

I think the trolls had enough to eat guys.

Besides, everyone knows that Wing Chun is king in street fighting against multiple attackers, or even multiple attackers with weapons. It's not even debatable.
