This thread is too funny! What does it matter? Really?

Bruce Lee will has been a legend for the last 37 years and he will be for another 37 years. Long after the naysayers and the UG are forgotten.

Incidentally Lee allegedly had mire than one altercation on the set of Enter the Dragon, one if which was with Bob Wall who was a champion Kareteka at the time. Wall allegedly wanted nothing to Donetsk fighting Lee. He also allegedly had an altercation with a Thai boxer on the set of The Big Boss aka Fists of Fury and defeated him.

Whether these stories are true will never be known but there are certainly more memoirs of Lees real life encounters than the WJM fight.

I personally font give a toss if he was a bad ass or not.

And for those who say he wasn't an innovator or a pioneer. I say look to the very people who are respected fighters now and most will cite Bruce Lee as an inspiration. Who has a better idea if his achievements, the trolls in this thread or the fighters that you admire so much and who are the reason for you being on this forum! Phone Post

IMO, people should value what BL did based on the following things (off the top of my head).

1. He developed a formerly unused method of researching things related to fighting. (note the catch phrases, 'absorb what is useful', 'using no way as way', 'research your own experience'. He'd go to the original research and/or use himself as the test subject;

2. He was one of the pioneers (along with guys like Ron Marchini) of using special equipment to train;

3. He discovered ways to make weak techniques strong (bridge arm, backfist, finger jab, etc.);

4. He was one of the first to incorporate a variety of methods into MA, including strength training, ab training, wrist/forearm training;

5. He was one of the first to emphasize nutrition in MA;

6. He figured out ways to break down moves into their component parts - he'd see a move and in a few days be able to duplicate it, a kick a punch, better than the expert who demonstrated it;

7. He figured out methods (with the help of James Demile) of using hypnosis and reaction training;

8. He added types of gymnastic training - the lying planche, and the V-situp;

9. He left a path, though obscured that other people could follow if they looked closely;

10. He added various types of weapon training into mainstream MA;

11. He debunked various types of martial arts fakery.

To me these things are more valuable contributions than just being a 'good fighter'.

Funny how a hate thread eventually leads to a greater appreciation of the subject of the initial post.

Modern mythology (which does exist, although not frequently on the UG) aside, Bruce's contributions to both TMAs and MMA are incredible.

LOL at these idiots who think competing in a sport is the only way to be a badass

learn some shit before you put your opinion out in the world

mikecard - not respecting bruce lee or Mas Oyama as two of the originators of MMA should get you banned immediately from this forum.

Of course it won't happen, which is why so many idiots roam this crappy forum.

yea im sure Lee's ex husband knows more about his steroid use than anyone lol.
i think that guy might have as much or more motive to talk shit about a guy he could never live up to in comparison all those years.

ddinks - What did Jim Harrison have to say about Lee?

I am throwing down the challenge:

JOELEWIS, CHUCK NORRIS, PAUL VUNAK, DAN INOSANTO, ALEX BEN BLOCK, JERRY POPEET, JAMES DEMILE AND ANY ONE ELSE, IF YOU CAN GIVE A NAME TO ANYONE DEAD OR ALIVE WHO SAW LEE FIGHT OR ACTUALLY HAD A FIGHT WITH HIM SPEAK KNOW OR FOREVER SHUT THE FUCK UP. WAS LEE A MARTIAL ARTIST OR A FIGHTER?

Well Bob Wall has talked about some of the challenge matches on the set of Enter the Dragon against extras wanting to make a name for themselves. According to him Lee wiped the floor with them.

Of course these were Chinese film extra's who were martial artists, not world class pro fighters of the day - but it does at least show that Lee was something more than simply an actor with no fighting ability at all.

i'm wondering if anyone read any of Bruce Lee's book(S)? Bruce Lees fighting methods?

i have 5 books written by BRUCE, and m.uyehara. in writing it asnwers alot of questions. some techniqus are rudamentary. but a fun read. bruce lee's fighting methods volume 1-4, chinese gung fu,and tao of jkd. if you havent read all of these books you probably don't have anything relevent to write here.

bsrizpac humiliates GreenLight, and all the JKD nerds, again .............

Hey, I want to fight a lot of people in this thread, starting with the OP. If that were to happen does that make me a FIGHTER or a guy who got into a couple of fights?

And by the way, there are people in this world that I haven't seen fight, but I know that they could whoop some ass. So what does that prove?

I've never watched a Eddie Alvarez fight but I heard from people that he's a fighter. Oh, but that's just rumor. Unless I see it with my own eyes it can't be true. (Sarcasm drips ......)

OP IS A DUMBASS

i have them down loaded in my possession right now. and though they were published after, him and his students are def pictured in it doing armbars and grabbing nuts......lol. he actually had it ready for publising before he died. and his wife linda put it out.

. Yes he did write all of the notes in the book he just didn't compile and publish it. Phone Post

Wow how have so many people fed this troll?? Oh shit i just did it too

Seriously! Are you saying all the text in the Tao of JKD is copied? If you are then you are very much mistaken. Admittedly some of the text is notes Lee made from other sources but there is some original work in there too. Phone Post
