Actually my judgement of his speed comes from demonstration videos he did with other fighters or interviewers, not his movies. But I've never seen a video of him with timers, so if anybody has the actual facts to prove me right or wrong please share,

ddinks - Whatever stopped Bruce lee from paying a few books entering a tournament and making a bunch of tough guy ex marine blackbelts look like fools? He had no qualms about entering a tournament and beating guys up IN A MOVIE.
Why not take on a guy like Legendary traditional martial artist and tough guy JiM Harrison? This guy would have probably no qualms about having a full contact fight with Lee.

How come Bruce never entered a weekend tournament to show the technical superiority of his style? Not everything he was espousing needed to be validated only by a streetfight.

Just to guess: he probably believed that preparing for these competitions developed bad habits for his real passion, streetfighting.

1) Bruce lee would probably be the first to sat that his Passion was defiantly NOT streetfighting.
2) Even if it were and he did make such a ludicrous claim by this logic you could go to any city and ask around the streets who the local badass is and fully expect the man to be a better fighter than someone who regularly competed in fighting competitions because the local badass's "passion" was street fighting.
3) Competition makes a person a better fighter. It is easy to add biting, eye gouging and nut shots into a fight even if not practiced or used in competition.. It is impossible to add good technique, timing and fight awareness to a fight where none is practiced or used in competition. In addition competition forces a person to face other trained adversaries. A Streetfight on the other hand just forces you to face another wannabe tough. Ergo. The man who competes will handily defeat the man who doesn't should they meet in a "streetfight".
