Comparing Condit/Diaz to Maynard/Guida via FMetric

guida = 45 significant strikes... 14% connect rate
Maynard = 49 significant strikes... 21% connect rate

as you can see guida was swinging in the air with such a low connect rate... Gray was as well but that's because guida was running away.

Now compare this to:

Condit: 151 significant strikes... 47% connect rate.
Diaz: 105 significant strikes... 42% connect rate.

The 2 fights arent even close in comparison.  Condit landed 3 times as many strikes and had twice the connect rate as Guida.

If you can land 150 significant strikes in a fight then there is no basis for critism.

No doubt that Guida's performance made Condit/Diaz look like an epic war. Look I'm completely for this gameplan, if you use it to dominate and finish your opponent. Otherwise, it's just playing it safe IMO. Sad thing is, Guida has so much potential to be a monster with his striking using his footwork. If he would have used a better strategy, he could have made the fight really one sided. It was the fastest I have ever seen Guida, but also the most hesitant I've ever seen him as well. Diaz stuck with his gameplan ( which was wayyyy less pathetic than Guida's.) and he won the fight. Might not have been an amazing victory, but definitely not as bad as some of the most controversial calls. Either way, I would hope these guys learn from this and change it up next go round. I prefer this graphic over the shit stats on the fightmetric website, you can actually see the type of strikes.
oh lookie there, 50 leg jabs.

159 is "3 times" 53... -68 insignificant leg taps =91 which means Diaz landed 111 to Condits 91 all while chasing him

leg jabs is the funniest thing ever

Maybe diaz should have thrown some leg kicks, ever consider that?
Diaz lost, clearly, get over it. Phone Post

Not even close to similar fights. Condit clearly dominated every round but I actually thought the first few rounds of Maynard/Guida were too passive to declare a winner.

LOL @ Diaz thinking he was ahead on the scorecards.

Lol @ the everhurt Diaz buttbuddies. Diaz barely outlanded Condit if we take the "legjabs" away and Diaz is known for his pitter patter punches. Add the kicks, Condit wins the fight. Diaz lost, pissed hot, took his ball and ran home to retirement. Ha ha.

Wow that chart 32Hunter posted was amazing, really makes you think about that decision. In my mind i recall in the first 3 rounds Condit just ran and threw pitter patter kicks and jabs. Diaz landed very few shots but was making the fight. Made me wish for the old Pride yellow cards. In rounds 4 and 5 Condit seemed to be more agressive and was landing some hard punches and kicks and won those rounds. The decision was close but hard to argue. I fell asleep in the Guida Maynard fight in the first round [was exhausted, not because fight was boreing] but it sounds like Clay was just afraid to engage in either strikeing or grappeling and should have been an easy win for Maynard.

SingleTMat - HEY GUYS, LOOK AT THESE NUMBERS!

Go watch the Diaz/Condit fight. If you think on a round by round basis that Condit won, just quit watching MMA already.
LOL @ you!!! Phone Post

Smith1234 - How does fight metric count like 95% of all strikes as significant strikes? Makes no sense.
They keep using that word. I don't think it means what they think it means.

I do wish their site would elaborate on what they are evaluating to determine this metric.

Cecil Peoples ... is that you?

LOL at not counting ANY kicks.  Leg strikes count.  Deal with it.

The reality is that, even if you get rid of all the 'jabs' thrown in that fight, Condit landed 44 'power' strikes while Diaz only landed 33 'power' strikes.  The only difference was that Condit spread his power shots around (landing in double digits to the body, head, and legs) while Diaz concentrated mainly on the body (landing in single digits to both the head and the legs while edging out Condit in body shots).

Backfire thread right here,
