                    <blockquote>

It was only about two weeks ago when Ryan Couture spoke to Dana White on the phone. The conversation is a blur. But during the brief exchange, White told Couture that his father, MMA great Randy Couture, was no longer welcome in the UFC, but that he was, as long as he wanted to honor his contract and fight in the octagon.

That was all Ryan had to hear. Regardless of the corresponding drawbacks involved, it was his dream to fight in the UFC, to compete against the best, and he didn't see any reason that an issue between his father and White should derail those plans.

"I wanted to be in the UFC no matter what," he said on Monday's edition of The MMA Hour. "My mind was made up on that before he ever called."

So that part of the discussion came as a relief to 30-year-old Ryan Couture, who had fought in Strikeforce seven times before the promotion was gobbled up and absorbed by the UFC.

As a father, I never would have put my son in such an awkward position. Phone Post

As a son, I would have probably retired and began selling milk and milk related products.

It's good 'ol Jimmy still around? lol Phone Post

As a Jon Jones, I would want to outdo my father and then tell people about it on TV.

As a man, I would have wanted my dad to treat my son like a grandson. Phone Post

As a woman in a man's body I would have kissed my son on the lips.

Wait, what are we talking about again?

They are REALLY throwing Ryan to the wolves. Phone Post

No doubt DFW will throw him to the wolves. On the bright side, he has the opportunity to slay the wolves one by one and make his own legacy.

If he can slay all the wolves, his legacy will be solidified.

As a father, I hope that my son would slay the wolves and return to Sparta as king.

dannyapodaca - Its his decision and I understand him wanting to fight in the ufc. But as a father I would hope my son would have told Dana to go fuck himself. Phone Post

This exactly.

Plus Dana really shows himself to be a characterless, classless piece of shit at times like this. Who rings a kid and gets him to choose between his career and his father.

The saddest thing of all for Dana is that so many people are loyal to him but it's ALL conditional on ONE thing. If Dana White was suddenly broke tomorrow he wouldn't have any "fans". Guy uses money, tickets etc as currency to buy friends. Phone Post

Please tell me you're joking? How is he making him choose between his career and his father? He offered to release him to pursue his career with his father, or to pursue it in the UFC knowing that his father only wouldn't be able to attend his fights. Either way, Ryan has a career somewhere. Maybe Randy should have considered his sons career before he signed up to work for a competing company...? Phone Post

This.

Dana will cut him as soon as he can and it might even be after Pearson starches him.

As a father, I would have wanted my son to fight in the best promotion in the world, even if I had a feud with that organization.

As a father,
I would have had a deep talk with him and explained to him that wile yes his last name is Couture, his first name isn't Randy. I would have told him he's better off fighting in lesser organizations with less talented fighters where he wont get beat so bad he has permanent brain damage. Phone Post

Didn't happen mate.

Pretty sure he's going to get tooled by Pearson anyway. His UFC tenure may not last long in the LW shark tank. Phone Post

You just don't get it...

How is Randy working for Bellator this criminal conspiracy?? He has every right to work wherever the fuck he wants! Bellator and SF fighters have cornered UFC fighters without issue forever. Now Randy, Ryan's FATHER can't corner him because he took a job with Bellator?? You think that's right??

This is the same Dana who says Bellator are acting like scumbags for daring to try and match Alvarez UFC offer. He got the option to march Randy's offer, didn't, now throws a hissy fit and bans him from UFC events?! Hypocrite much??

But the worst part about this is Dana woulda got word that he can't ban Randy from cornering his son so he puts Ryan over a barrel and says "you can fight here but only if your dad doesn't corner you" thereby forcing Ryan's to choose.

Where I come from that's a cunt act. You don't mess with a mans ability to make a living and you don't mess with a mans family.

Thing is I think Ryan got beat by Noonz in his last fight so im no fan of his but what's right is right. Phone Post

Randy was already under contract with Fox and the UFC actually... And lying to your current employer and screening their calls is considered a cunt move as well. Phone Post

From what I understand, Randy lied to Dana, said we'll talk after Christmas, inked a deal with Bellator & SpikeTV, and skipped out on his last contractual obligation with Zuffa. Where I come from, people who conduct business endeavors like that are not spoken of too highly.

From what I understand, Bellator "matched" the Alvarez contract by promising that he'll be showcased on pay-per-view within the year. I haven't heard any news about this possible Bellator PPV, but the idea certainly has potential. I would buy it if it happens- however unlikely it may seem at the moment.

If I were Ryan's father, I would certainly be excited and happy to see my son follow in my footsteps, and compete against the greatest fighters in the sport on the grandest stage for the most money he could make. It's my son's career and my son's livelihood. Two things he has his own rights to- as an athlete and as a man.

Just my opinion, based on what I have heard from both parties in various interviews on the subject. Best of luck to Ryan and Randy. And Eddie Alvarez, for that matter. Phone Post

He had a 30 day notice period which he used, same as the UFC / Fox woulda done. Not to mention he gave Zuffa the option to match his Bellator offer and they told him to whistle.

So imagine a prospective employer offered you a much better job with higher pay. You tell your current employer and give them the option to match but they decline. Does that then make you a cunt for resigning and taking the offer?? Really??

Wake up and stop buying into Dana's temper tantrums Phone Post

I wouldn't bail on prior commitments with a job while entertaining other offers. I would still uphold my contract and THEN enter into the negotiating period. Why sign a contract if you have no intention of seeing it through every time a better offer comes around?

Maybe we differ on that account. I believe in loyalty to the people who got me where I am in life. Randy's personal and professional life indicates that he does not believe in that. I'm not the only one saying it, and it has nothing to do with Dana's statements about him. Phone Post
