Cuban on Jim Rome

Did anyone hear what Cuban said on Jim Rome today? I did not hear it but a friend told me that Mark Cuban said he was ready to compete with the UFC and is suing the UFC for the rights to Randy so he can fight Fedor on HDnet. Apperently he wants to make the UFC the minor league and specifically wants to sign GSP as well.

Heard part of it. He mentioned wanting to put on Randy/Fedor. He also compared the UFC to WWE in that it only promotes it's brand name and not the fighters or the sport as a whole. He said he was ready and able to compete with the UFC, and fully expected to slowly pull all the big name stars on board until the UFC became a feeder league for his fights. Sounded like he was going to throw some money at some UFC guys to come fight for him. He mentioned Tito.

I figured he would go after Tito but my friend said that Cuban also mentioned GSP. Is GSP's contract up soon or what?

oh snap

He also has far bigger and more powerful contracts in the sporting world then anyone associated with the UFC

Why, because he owns an NBA team?

You do realize that he isn't liked by the other owners in the NBA. You think they'll help him?

He dont need help from OTHER OWNERS. He's got contacts in the sporting world...outside of the NBA

cuban isnt in it for the money... he does it because he cares about fighters

I've been saying all along and now it's official.

Dana and the Brothers are dead meat. They will be exposed as the pathetic joke shysters that they truly are.

IT'S OVER.

I bet they sell ASAP now because in two years they won't have SHIT to sell...

Hopefully Cuban will do the right things and get rid of the cage and push for REAL MMA RULES!

I think he is in it for the money, but he treats the players/fighters/whoever pretty well. the mavs have all kinds of perks that other teams do not have.

Such as? I don't follow bball at all so I have no idea how he treats his players.

you guys crack me up.  Cuban isn't gonna do shit, he' s all talk.  Just like he was gonna buy the cubs and sit out in the bleachers.

Competition good, monopolies bad.

They have team plane that from what I hear is luxurious. Each locker has its own media center with tv, dvd, music, etc. There are two large apartments in their arena for the families of, I believe, Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Terry.

oh and if you think Dana's an asshat go watch a Mav's game...all you see is that dick jumping up and down and cursing refs.  I wish Dana and Cuban would just run off together and leave MMA alone.

Well known for getting the best facilities, luxuries, and whatever it takes for his players. I remember watching a special on the Mavs locker room a couple of years ago and the type of stuff they had in there was amazing (latest technologies, masseuses, whirl-pools, etc.) I am sure a lot of teams treat players well, but the special made it a point to say that the Mavs treatment was somehow better and a cut above the rest.

Basically, Cuban is willing to spend, on anything, if he thinks it will help his guys out.

From fighter interviews (I think Drew Fickett), said that he had never been treated with such professionalism etc. He took everyone that fought out to eat. Little things go a long way.

I don't like Cuban. He's a rich boy who thinks his money gives him free reign to break rules. Why not? Any fine that he's given he can easily pay. I don't like that kind of attitude. He's bad for the sport. He's only  jumping in because if anything, he's probably a smart business man and he can see the opportunity in this growing market. Y'all are blind if you think he's in it for the fighters.

I am not defending his personality, but if treats his athletes like pros and pays them more than dana, then i am all for that.

Comeback Kid is correct.  The players all love Cuban--is it any wonder that not all owners do?

Here you have a hyper-agressive, and energetic owner, who is willing to do whatever it takes, to obtain, and retain star players.  He markets the hell out of the Mavericks, and pushes the other owners as well.  He makes the other owners uncomfortable.  He criticizes stupid policies of the NBA, and poor officiating.  He is outspoken.  He isn't just in it to be part of the boys club.  He sticks out, and pushes all the other owners to keep up, or fall behind.  Its no wonder he isn't liked by the other owners.  That should be seen as a compliment to Cuban, not a criticism.

HDNet, soon to be in 100 million homes nationwide.  Promotional Brand will never be worth more than it is today.
