Damage wins: why no Gus outrage Dana?

if damage wins the fight Dana where's your outrage over Gus losing?

Who got rocked in the Gus vs Jones fight?

UGCTT_Charles Bronsons Mustache - Who got rocked in the Gus vs Jones fight?

Doesn't matter Gus did more damage over the fight, one moment doesn't win a fight, he wants damage to matter tonight but Jones looking like a car wreck is a win.

I don't get it, and I thought Johnny won

Because Jon Jones didn't retire.

Gus and Jones were both busted up.  Gus didn't look great either.  GSP was beat up.  Hendricks was not.

Still doesn't matter, Gus outstruck him and was less damaged, under the logic of damage he still wins.

Damage wins rounds was his point, not fights. Jones pretty damn close won 3 rounds (IMO he did win 3). Although I want to see that rematch as well, Hendricks' damage in 1, 2 and 4 won him those rounds and he deserved the nod in this won.

Edit: in this 'won' wtf? lol

and I'm not saying either was that big of a robbery, Dana just talks out of his ass.

Damage has NEVER been the major component in scoring, people have been complaining about that for years.

I still think Gus wins on the damage logic, over 5 rounds he did more. Packed more of it per punch and hit Jones more.

Either it's damage or there needs to be new rules about types of damage, but we don't even have damage as the main scoring category so it's moot.

Gus looked pretty good in comparison...and didn't need two people to help him walk out of the cage lol!

But anyway...I agree. GSP looked like Rocky Balboa and JH looked like he just came out of the womb.

You are kind of making my point for me. You're saying he did more damage over the course of the whole 5 rounds, but fights as a whole aren't what is scored (whether or not you think they should be - I'm on the fence on that one).

I thought Gus won 2 rounds heavily based on damage, and I came away thinking he was the better fighter, but I still scored 3 rounds for Jones. Keep in mind that I have never liked Jones, still don't, and can't wait until Gus becomes champion someday. I just don't let that interfere with my observation.

This fight - round 1, GSP did very little and Hendricks landed more than a few significant strikes. I don't think anyone would argue that Hendricks won 2 and 4 easily. Damage won him those rounds and he deserved the decision.

Damage wins rounds. The accumulation of rounds wins decisions.

Johnny won the most rounds because he did the most damage in the most rounds.

Johnny tagged him in the first round.

No he didn't Dana it was the second which all three judges gave Johnny, might want to have your facts straight before you whine

By that theory, Sonnen beat Jones because he needed help walking out of the Octagon there too :)

And Hendricks clearly won that fight

GSP's guillotine scores him something that's why I think they gave argued it for GSP

I will be interested to see how DC does at LHW but I don't think he is going to smash Jones.

I think technically speaking you are right, even though there are plenty of fights where damage wasn't the main scoring factor. I think Dana is lashing out as a problem with more than just damage under the scoring system, I think he like a lot of people just wants more damage to win the fight regardless of how the round scoring even works, and in that rage about fighting = damage, both fights were the wrong decision. Now under the current scoring there are multiple ways to score rounds and Dana knows that. I find it inconsistent to harp on damage one night in genral and not on another.

Damage isn't everything but when one guy looks like he was beaten with baseball bats and the other looks like he's an 8-5 banker who's never been punched, something is wrong.
