Went from what should have been a nasty, in fighting karate style (fists, stance, kicks, etc) were all made for clinch work. To a pointfighting hug fest.
My first Issinryu tourney, had “trembling shock” as a criteria for points. You had to hit someone hard enough for them to move to count. Head punches and groin kicks were legal.
Now they only allow strikes from collar bone to belt, and no excessive contact.
Speaking of the pka and kenpo. How bout giving a shout out to George Pesare and his impressive fighters from Providence RI in the 70s and 80s. Danny Macaruso, Bobby Ryan and guts like Steve Krewell
HOLD UP!!! I’m not about to let you missionary-style ground fighters talk shit about the high-stakes game of POINT FIGHTING!!!
There is nothing wrong with point fighting. Those strikes actually sting when an opponent lands a step-in jab to the face or a lead-leg hook kick to the side of the head.
PF has produced many great martial artists such as, Chuck Norris, JVCD, etc. So, show some gotdamned respect.
