DFW: I'm confident that GSP will come back

In the cage immediately after a split decision win over Johny Hendricks was announced, UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre seemed to indicate he might be done fighting, citing undefined personal issues. At the post fight press conference, GSP repeated the remarks, heightening concern that the sports biggest PPV draw might be done.

However, at the post fight media scrum White said he had talked with GSp, and thought everything would be OK.

"I'm in a better mood now," said White after the pair met, as transcribed my MMAMania. "[We talked] about his problems and his problems aren't as bad as he thinks they are. I'm not Dr. Oz, or whoever that guy is, but Lorenzo is still in there talking to him. We'll get through this. I'm confident that he will come back. One of the things that makes Georges as great as he is, is that things drive him crazy.

"Little things drive him nuts… like the whole obsession thing he was talking about. He's obsessing over something else right now that he thinks might be the end of the world now but it's not. He got his ass whooped tonight, whether that was it or it wasn't, I don't know. I wasn't being harsh, it's reality…

"He probably should have bit his tongue, but he didn't. And he knows that. Like he said, he just got his head punched in. He said he didn't know what round it was, that the fight was over when it was over. He was hurt badly, hurt badly. How anyone can score that fight where they think he won… that kid is hurt. He's hurt right now. His face is busted up, his head isn't right. He got beat up tonight. I think everything is fine and go just like it always does."

"How long has Georges been here ... eight, nine years? This is the first time Georges St. Pierre had a problem. It happens, he's a human being.... He was very emotional about some s--- that was going on with him right now and it's really not that bad, but to him it's bad, it's the end of the world. He's mentally strong guy, he's a hard-working guy, he's an honest guy. He'll work it out."

So what do you think UG? Will GSP be back? And who does he fight next? Immediate rematch with Johny Hendricks? And how would that go a second time?

How about Dana White vs. Frank Shamrock as the main event of the end of the year UFC PPV?

Two good outcomes of GSP retiring would be:

1) GSP went out on top and on his own terms.
2) Dana has to go and build some stars, which he needs to do.

I hope he doesn't, Dana acted like a huge cunt Phone Post 3.0

GSP should retire. He has nothing left to prove.

With Dana acting like that, even more incentive.

He's lost a step, he's taking damage, he's rich, he's in any sensible discussion regarding ' best ever'; if retirement is best for him, i hope he walks away. Phone Post 3.0

This. He's just not quite as good as he used to be. No need to hang around until he eventually gets put down.

I would be shocked if his camp isn't telling him the same thing too. Phone Post 3.0

For Dana White to insult GSP and then downplay whatever personal issues he is having is just over the top ignorant. Whether you think he won or not, GSP fought his ass off until the final bell.

I hope he retires and has a great, healthy life. It is pretty obvious Dana doesn't see fighters as people, he sees them as dollar signs. And the UFC will be seeing far fewer dollars if GSP is retired.

I think GSP is having a Kid... And maybe not with someone he's stoked on. He seems like a genuinely good dude (I'm not a Fan, always root against him) and I could see this weighing on him! Between the Fatherly and fiduciary responsibilities looming I could see him wanting some time off!!

GSP is probably not enjoying life at this point. He has had injuries and constant pressure for years. He is under constant stress and he probably doesn't need the money at this point. My guess is the guy wants to enjoy life at this point.
F Dana White. How the hell does GSP owe Hendricks or the company anything?

I agree.

To me it looks like GSP is burnt out and could use a long vacation. The pressure of being a champion must be immense.

Both Anderson and GSP have shown signs of work related burn out.

I agree as well.

It just looks to me like GSP is flat and is becoming a shadow of his former self. It looks like the fire isn't really there anymore.

Sometimes you just get a feeling that someone is sort of done. I don't think he's really totally done, but retirement would seem appropriate at this point.

I never know what to think about DFW. Sometimes I think he's great and others. Idk.

When things don't go his way he blows them up so much worse and flips out yelling and swearing.

And sorry but he's a waffling bitch.

"We have to trust the NSAC drug testing"
30 sec later.....
"NSAC is totally incompetent. I want the governor in here. "

"GSP is the greatest most professional best role model etc."
30 sec later w/o talking to George first....
"That's not how this works, he owes me. He owes the fans. He owes it to the belt. "

I hope George retires. Best there is, best there was, best there ever will be. Enjoy your life now George. You don't owe anybody anything. Especially DFW. Phone Post 3.0

yep

Lorenzo matters, you don't Derp W JR

You know. I think Dana did a fine jo of making the UFC popular again when it was in the bowels of obscurity. he did a fine job from 2003-2010 now he is to much of a greedy attention whore/douchenbag bully combination. time for a new president

Dana's ego is getting out of control. He fucks with his fighters morale almost everyday. Dana adds stress to an already stressful job. He needs to reel his personality in a little bit.

Dana should have kept his mouth shut, but I understand his frustration. 20th anny show marred by a controversial decision.. and your top draw grabs the mic and says.. "I'm taking an open ended vacation" He must have been fuming.

I for one hope GSP doesn't come back, or at least until he is very ready to. Unfortunately, I think once a fighter starts talking about time off or retirement they will never be the same even if they insist to the media that they are back 100%, motivated, or whatever.

I really don't like the fact that Dana seems to think money is all the matters. That's his answer to everything. These 2 don't want to fight? Throw more money at them. The fighters are never going to compete their best if they truly don't want to be in there. Dana says he never questions a fighter about retirement, asking for a leave should be no different. Whether or not he thinks that what GSP is dealing with is important or not is irrelevant. He owes it to all the fight fans, the athletes, and the sport to not force somebody to do something they don't want to do.
