But this Diaz was different: quiet, mellow and reserved. There were no outbursts or complaints about respect. There were no scathing criticisms of anything surrounding the sport. In fact, he saved his only prolonged oration to defend his opponent.
Yes, Diaz came to the side of Condit, after being asked about Georges St-Pierre overshadowing Condit in the lead-up to UFC 143.
"Yeah, I think it makes me sick," he said. "This is Carlos’ time to be here, and to be a part of this main event. This is ... half of the show is built up around me fighting Georges St-Pierre. But that's not [right]. I’m fighting Carlos Condit. So, I don't like it."
As Diaz observed, St-Pierre has been noticeably visible during event week, even holding court with reporters on Wednesday to offer a status update on his injured knee. Of course, he also spoke about the UFC 143 main event, saying that he "hopes and prays" Diaz wins, so that he eventually gets to fight him.
disbeliever - I agree. The last 10 minutes of the countdown was GSP working out. Disrespectful to Carlos imo. If Diaz wins, they can hype the shit out of that fight and sell it out in 3 minutes, no need to take away from Carlos
How is it disrespectful to Condit more than Diaz? The winner of this fight meets GSP next.

its more disrespectful to condit , seeing as how there's more talk of diaz vs gsp. than there is of condit
I think it's a bit ridiculous too for the reason that nearly EVERYONE (not everyone, just nearly) is looking past Condit. I think Condit has a great shot to win. On the other hand, although I'm not saying its the right or wrong thing to do, it's getting a ton of hype, GSP is still the title holder (technically). I know he hasn't defended for a while due to injury, but he has some right to be there (although maybe not to the extent the UFC is pushing it). And last but not least, my favorite, it's getting into diaz's head. GSP is playing the Diaz game.
I agree.. GSP needs to fade into the background until it's his time to fight.. pretty sick of it actually. Regardless of who wins tomorrow, I hope either of them destroys GSP.

I honestly think this may be more about them trying to keep GSP relevant and in fans minds. Imagine we don't see GSP fight for 1 1/2 or 2 years and he doesn't make appearances at these press events and what not. I think he might just fade a lot in the public perception and it could possibly hurt the UFC's bottom line, not to mention GSP's pockets as well. However if we consistently see him chomping at the bit to get in there to fight Diaz, fans can't help but anticipate that fight.
Even this whole GSP recovering fast thing is probably a ploy to make people think the fight will happen in the near future, but the truth is I don't think GSP wants to risk hurting himself again. Why would he? They just want to keep having a reason to bring the fight up between now and then. If GSP doesn't sign to fight within a month, the winner should defend the interim belt. For all we know GSP could injure himself during training and be out for another 6 months. It isn't worth postponing your career for a fight that may never happen.
Condit is a good fighter but overall as a person boring. The truth is I am buying the fight sat to watch diaz hopfully win so I can see gsp diaz. That is the fight everyone wants to see, good guy versus crazy guy. Diaz is fun to watch condit eh
Anarkis - Nick has been really on a roll lately. I agree with him 100%. Lets hope he has been training his TD defense.
You are doing what nick has the problem with you are looking straight at the GSP fight instead of the fight saturday so how do you agree with nick!!!!
GSP is the only one who goes for takedowns??
Cant really see condit going for a takedown to be fair nicks bjj is great condit has more chance on the feet and nick seem to always wanna stand just saying hope he is working tdd just seems like he is talking about GSP as nick is not one to go for td's
Well, Diaz is the one who was calling GSP out saying he was scared and backed out of fights, so that is why GSP has been so vocal.
As for Condit being upset that he is being overlooked, I think you are all looking at it the wrong way. Condit is focused on Diaz, and Diaz cant stop talking about GSP.
Georges is obviously doing this all on purpose to mess with Diaz. And Condit should be thanking him for it. If Condit wins this fight, he will get all of the attention he deserves in the hype up for his title fight with GSP.
