I had that wavemaster XXL which is supposed to be one of the heaviest ones out there, and that shit tipped/moved and slid across the floor way too much (probably didn't help it was on a wood floor lol).
It's kind of like using a 70 lb. heavy bag or something. You'll be hard pressed to land a combo on those either because the first shot sends the fuckers swinging so far they often unhook from the chain.
And I'm not a large individual...
They're not totally useless but they remove the most important component of heavy bag work, footwork. Since the bag doesn't move it doesn't force you or even allow you to move in a very natural way that would mimic putting together quality punches while working on balance and angles.
If you just want to work on basic punching mechanics and not hurt your hands (or feet if you are kicking it) then I suppose those types of bags are ok.
I never get when the base is bigger than the bag.
More area to Injure yourself? Ridiculous. Hanging bags are much better.
They take up less space but it depends on buying/supporting a hangin one.
A lot of people seem to think that hanging bags weight 400 tonne and enough to bring your garage down.
Not as good as a proper bag but still better than nothing if you can't hang one. You just can't kick them hard though.

I've had that one in my backyard (on a paved surface) for like 5 years, completely unsheltered and out in the weather all year and it's still fine. I don't use it all the time, maybe once a week I'll do one of the old bas muay thai audio workouts, but its held up remarkably well.
