E. German Wrestling Strength Standards

Found this on Dave Draper's site. Thought it was pretty interesting. Not sure when these were published other than, obviously, between 1968 and 1990.

There are two sets of standards the wrestlers were expected to meet to compete on an international basis: strength and strength-endurance. Strength are 1RM. Strength-endurance are the minimum reps that can be completed in 45 seconds. For the bench, squat and row on strength-endurance, they used 75 percent of the maximum of the weight class they competed in, except for heavyweights, who used 80kg. Strength-endurance pull ups were unweighted. For both tests, the pull ups were to be done with strict form and no kipping.

Interesting stuff. At least for my weight class, it seems they emphasized serious strength w/r/t to the squat and pullups/rows, but the bench marks aren't particularly impressive.

Well remember, the needs of wrestling call for a lot more pulling and back strength than pushing strength.

Leigh - Also, 60 squats in 45 seconds with 2xbw seems ridiculous Phone Post 3.0

For the bench, squat and row on strength-endurance, they used 75 percent of the maximum of the weight class they competed in, except for heavyweights, who used 80kg.

62kg weight class: squat = 180kg

180kg x 75% = 135kg Phone Post 3.0

I thought it meant for those competing in 62kg, they took 75% of 62kg

= 46.5kg

for endurance

There are two sets of numbers in my post for each weight class. The first are strength standards and are 1RM. The second are the strength-endurance standards for the bench, squat and row on strength-endurance, they used 75 percent of the maximum of the weight class they competed in, except for heavyweights, who used 80kg.

Were they doping?

The pull-up standards are incredible, both for strength and strength-endurance. It's hard to imagine a SHW like Rulon Gardner doing 18 pull-ups continuously...

E German "supplements" must have been eaten by the handful.

Yes, tbol was a favorite among the east Germans. Still takes a ton of training and heart tho. Good find op

How well did East Germany do in wrestling during that time period?

Can anyone here meet them?

dang Leigh, i just googled you. u r jacked my man.

And that's only from 1 set of 1 Clean and press a week.

Some of these are just pretty badass. 56 squats in 45 seconds is fucking flying for just using body weight very much less with an additional 75% of your body weight. That's pretty awesome. I can't do that. I like that the standard is to be able to row your bench lockout.

Leigh - I'm close but lack flexibility in my ankles, so I can't get under the bar for a clean. I can power clean about 95kg. Think I can do the others, or at least I could if I trained a little for them. I'd be in the 62kg class Phone Post 3.0

Amazing. I know you`re the 10-rep pull up king, but what's your 1 rep max?

Bumping for a friend.

I missed this the first time.

Pull ups are one of my strongest moves but damn... Those numbers...

I wish I knew what those numbers were in lbs lol
