I dunno about 185 but he could likely make 205 weight class. Here is a vid of him against Diego Sanchez in a grappling tournament in 2003.

Bro science for the win! Phone Post 3.0

Roy tried to cut-down his weight before and he loss some. But it only lasted for a few months and he's back to the same weight and physique.

So not happening.

I would agree that he could make it, but its incredibly unlikely. He's perfectly happy with his physique, even proud of it. He's got a cute wife that apparently doesn't mind it, and although he's been on a losing streak lately, he's also been pretty successful in the past with his weight as it is, so I don't see him changing. At all.

I remember hearing Roy say something about being a blimp helps him take a punch. If roy ever comes to fight without a gut its going to Liddell-Franklin all over again

He easily could. But just because you're tough enough to be a fighter doesn't mean you're disciplined enough to stick to a diet. Roy doesn't have it in him to stick to a serious fat cut, he's made his disinterest clear Phone Post 3.0

SensoriaUtopia - Honest saying Roy Nelson can make 185 is just dumb. The guy is a freaking heavyweight, he should not even be fighting at 205 either. Just because you are not a 6 ft or taller guy does not mean you are not a heavyweight. Do I think Roy should trim down and get in better shape, definitely. I think instead of coming in at 260 or more, he should come into fights at a range of 235-247 lbs, but no way he should fight at mw, or even 205. I think his fights show that clearly.
Have you seen how fat a guy like Tyson Griffin gets out of camp? Unless you're in the high 220's-240's with low body fat, you're not a natural heavyweight. It doesn't mean Roy would be a better fighter at a lower weight as his game is catered to fighting slow heavyweights, but he could have (should have) easily fought 185 his entire career if he didn't eat fast food every day his whole life. He does NOT have a heavyweight frame, he has a heavyweight gut, which we are all capable of attaining through poor diet management. Fact Phone Post 3.0

Do people really believe Roy Nelson is in terrible shape or something? He clearly carries around some fat, but there is no way he is getting to 185.

If he got down to like 225, people would see that how big he is even without the gut. He's built like Mark Hunt.

No he is not, his legs are much thinner and so are his arms.

Roy Nelson carries 50 extra pounds on his body minimum. Phone Post 3.0

Eddie is correct. Fit Roy would be a middleweight. If he had even a reasonable physique, he'd be under 200lbs.

Junior Dos Santos at probably 10% body fat weighing in close to 240 is a natural HW.

Roy is probably in the 30% range at 260, so he could easily make 210 with proper diet. He obviously has very good cardio since anyone who can go a full 25 minutes carrying over 50lbs of unnecessary weight is definitely in pretty good shape (internally at least) but imagine what he would fight like if he rid himself of the 23 kilos or so of fat. Dude is a massive man but most of that mass is his gunt. If he was serious about his diet and physique he'd be at 200lbs cutting to 185. Phone Post 3.0

Thanks for posting the vids CavRyda

An "extra" 50 pounds? Is that your final opinion doctor?

You don't need to be a doctor to see that Roy is damn near 30% body fat. If you figure 10% is a normal percentage for a fighter who is just "walking around", that leaves 20% of his body weight in fat that he is unnecessarily carrying around. Phone Post 3.0

We just saw Beltran who was not as fat do it.

He didn't start as high but if Roy lost the fat he'd do the same.
