Honestly, I regret the amount of training I did in general.
I’m in my mid40s now and doing pretty well career wise and financially, so not like I’m full of regret …… but I think back to my 20s and wonder why the fuck I was training 4-5 days a week when I never had any delusion of turning pro. I could have applied that drive to useful long term pursuits instead.
IMO it’s worth getting proficient enough at the basics of striking and grappling, but past that point you should stop and ask yourself why.
Because it is a worthwhile hobby that gives you real life abilities. I spent 35 years of my life training and I had a full time career (utility manager) that paid me well. I started wrestling at 14 and retired training at 48 yo. My best friends were all met through training and fighting.
haha ah the memories.
I was stopped in the street more than once in early 2000s by random guys who had to shake my hand because I was wearing a Brazilian Top Team or Sakuraba tshirt and then ask where I trained.
lol good times.
I too can validate that. Have rolled with world class guys in both. Both great but when you get top of the food chain BJJ guys they are by far the best grapplers
Whoever thinks BJJ guys don’t train takedowns live and with intensity, obviously doesn’t train. Every school I’ve ever seen trains takedowns and I’ve been training for 20 years. Now especially, takedowns are trained hard and with as much emphasis as ground work.
Joe Rogan can be annoying when it comes to jiu jitsu.
Someone could do a mega clip of all the times he predicted the fight was maybe just about to be over because someone touched their own ankle when playing closed guard.
“HE MIGHT BE DOING RUBBER GUARD THIS COULD BE OVER QUICKLY!”
Then, 99% of the time, nothing would happen. He was really bad in that way. for a couple years there. He has gotten better.
But, here too, Kron played Closed Guard with an overwrap… and that’s all he did the entire fight and Joe was super excited that ‘it could end quickly’. Uh no… not with the way Charles was behaving in the guard. He played it just right.
