I'm trying to gain weight. I do bjj 2-3 times a week & wrestling on one of those days. I also lift weights once a week using a HIT protocol.
I'm 5'11" 176 lb & roughly 10% body fat, I would like to gain 10 lbs. of lean mass.
When I eat 2300 calories a day, I don't gain any weight. I started trying to eat 3000 calories, it's a bit of work to put everything down.
Any experience out there with putting on lean mass?
It may be hard to put on lean
mass without putting on
some body fat at the same time.
The "Gallon of Milk per Day"
protocol is popular among
some circles. You drink the
milk in addition to the 3000
calories you are taking in
with whole food. You can
google the program and read
about it.
cool, i drink raw whole milk now. i'll try putting down more of it.
UrBloodOnMyFisT - oxandrolone is your friend or even dianabol once the water comes off.
Spoken like a true cheating pussy.
Lift clean!
eat 5000 calories a day. It's doable. Only once you get above 7000 do you need to start doing supplements to get additional calories because your stomach is too much of a wuss to eat that much.
Leigh - Eating high calories isn't that hard but it helps to choose calorie-dense food. After my last big weight cut, I had to get the carbs in quick but my stomach was rejecting food from the starvation. I could only handle light food like fruit, so I ate lots of dry mango. Each 300g bag was 1000 calories and I put about 5 bags away before bed
Sure, but I mean on a consistent basis, like a for a year straight. I don't think I could eat bags 3 lbs of dried mangos every day. My colon would start to look like a rainforest and shit.
Gallon of Whole Milk per day in addition to 3-4 hearty meals.
Stop the HIIT. Exhaust your gains on a linear novice progression barbell program.
You'll do 10 pounds easily (probably in a month or less).

and how much of that 10 lbs will actually be muscle?
there is a lot of mark rippetoe fans on this site.

ha
Milk is the devil, forget about it. Start by jacking your carb level. Waxy Maize twice a day will give you about 150 grams of additional carbs. EFAs!!! Nuts all types. Hugely dense in calories. Also supplement with a gainer shake. Something that will give you 500 to 700 calories per serving. This will make the excess a lot easier to put in the stomach and tolerate. Your maintenance level for your weight and activity I would approximate around 2500 to 2700. Start with a 500 calorie increase (quality foods). That should be a good place to start.
You call milk the devil and then suggest to use a worthless supplement with empty carbs that lacks nutrients?
LOL. Milk? do some research. He's trying to "supplement" his diet which is maxed out at 3000 calories. The carb addition is an easy 150 grams of carbs not to mention roughly 300 additional calories which he'll be able to bypass his stomach and head straight to the bloodstream. His base nutrtitional requirements aren't suffering unless I'm reading wrong.

I could but its fucking pricey. each 300g bag costs £5
Pizza also does the job
Pizza is a good choice, especially if you are eating free at a college cafeteria.
One of my favorite in-between snack snacks is a few slices of good bread slathered with nutella, a satsuma, a banana and a yogurt, though it's a bit of work to gather everything.
Another excellent mini-snack is taking a big cereal bowl, filling it 3/4 full of granola, and then dumping a pint of plain or banana flavored greek yogurt onto it, and cutting some fruit onto it. That staves off the constant hunger for an hour, and is a great post-workout recovery snack.

The carb has no vitamins, no minerals, no protein, no flavour.
I just found it funny you recommend utter shit while claiming milk is useless when it contains vitamins, protein, carbs, fat and calories. There are lactose free versions. Or if you dont like milk, just have a fucking peanut butter jelly sandwich, not some shitty produced carbs
And please dont reference the shitty chinese study in reference to milk if that is your stance
Utter shit? Do you know anything about supplements? I thought not. Let's all eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. That should put lean mass on you like there's no tomorrow.

i haven't been eating a lot of carbs.
when i went to vitamin shoppe last night the guy suggested a Waxy Maize product. i passed on the product because it was HUGE and only contained 15 servings.
I started adding oats to my protein shake... but this will probably drive someone crazy.
my shake is
gold standard whey protein
1 cup raw whole milk
banana
1/3 cup some organic oats from whole foods.
550 calories roughly

I had pretty much the same thing yesterday. Try adding a tbs or two of natural peanut butter if you like. Bravo on passing up the Waxy Maize.
Doesn't look too bad. I think you should reconsider the Maize. You can buy it flavoured and slam one of those immediately following your training. 15 to 30 mins later hit the protein shake you're making. As far as the milk goes, won't be the death of you LOL but you may want to consider an Almond milk or alternative. You will notice quite a difference especially if you were carb depleted before adding it.

A serving of peanut butter in that shake will add around 200 calories and improve the taste.
