Hello Everyone
I wanted to cover a couple of things from last year that I did not get a change and then share the amazing news for next year
1) Anyone that pre-register LAST YEAR and did not receive their t-shirt should email Beau from Title MMA
(beau@titleboxing.com)
2) We have opened registrations for next years event ( www.gracietournaments.com) and I have made some major changes to the rules. I have been on a quest to bring my grandfathers jj back to life and I want to make sure that each competitor has 100% power on the outcome of the match.
2012 will be a submission only event
Meaning there will be no point system in place and all matches will be 15 minutes long regardless of the belt color.
There will be no time limit for the finals
As we are running some free of charge test events to answer and figure it out any situations that come up with so all purple belts are welcome to attend.
So far the only thing we wont allow for all belts is slamming and no heelhooks for white and blue belt
My main priority is the competitiors safety so I take everything into major consideration.
3) Our next test event will be for PURPLE BELTS only
170 and above
170 and below
on
Nov 12th 2012

@ Javier Vazquez's Gracie Jiu Jitsu School in Rancho Cucamonga
We really appreciate anyone that wants to compete and help us out make these cruacial decisions for next years event.
(Ryron Gracie and Javi will do a seminar at the same location after the test event if you would like to attend contact the Gracie Academy 310 353 4100 )
Contact us if you have any questions and I will email you all again after the test event.
Happy Halloween everyone.....
Sincerely,
Rose

15 min? What if you're in a huge bracket and gotta beat 4-5 guys to win?

I doubt very much that every match will go the 15 minutes.
Cooooooooool

yeah, if theres a ton of mismatches
If there's no point system and it's sub only, what happens if there's no sub by the end of the 15 mins?

You both are done. That is why you must submit your opponent or you both tie and don't continue. Just think of it this way if it happens it just means you went up against someone that is equal to your skill level. Just kidding, I have no idea on that but I assume this will happen or there might be a sudden death match.

i think you might be right.
i sent them an email asking about the rules.
no reply yet.
i just got an email from rose gracie and she confirms that it will be 15 min/sub only (both competitors get eliminated if no one secures a sub), and no time limits for finals.

then that is not real sub only. us grappling does real sub only
some dude coudl know he would get subbed so he can just go into pure defense mode.
^sweet.
i hope us grappling holds an event here in socal soon.

Yeah if that happens then the guy should get DQ. Both competitors should be attacking if one just plays defensive mode throughout the match he should be DQ.

Sounds like there is going to be a ton of pissed off competitors and coaches to me. I hope they are damn strict on stalling because of the mentioned defense minded competitor.
sub
I like the no submssion you're both out. Could lead to a tourney where no one gets first place.
I don't think being defensive should be penalized in this format. I think this paradigm will solve that issue. If you don't try something you're going to lose anyway.
At the very least it will make for a great experiment. I do think the time should be a bit longer. Maybe 20 minutes.
Also I wouldn't allow no-gi in this context. I've seen some very long matches in no-gi when it was submission only. (Over an hour.) But this may have also been affected by the skill level of the participants as in not knowing what to do in certain situations.
Should be very interesting and rather easy to ref as well.
