This fight is interesting. If Jake wins he has to be put in the title picture and as much as I like Condit, Shields is a bad matchup for him. 
Lol. He cant beat Ellenburger even if he wanted to.
Jake hasn't been the same in the UFC. Lost to Ellenberger, shoot i even had Akiyama beating him.
See the great thing about Shields, he just somehow wins. Is it his awkward stand up? He isnt hurting his opponent, but its active. Is it his outstanding grappling? Is it because ever since the Ellenberger loss he has found a strange aura that speaks to judges?
No one knows, but Shields just somehow wins.
The Perverted One -DoomFarmer - I'm not sure Shields can get Lombard down and I am certain that Lombard can knock Shields out.Shields has very underrated striking. He out struck Woodley pretty handily. Obviously Lombard is on another level with his hands and wouldn't hesitate like Woodley did. Of course after the Hendo fight, i would be surprised if Jake dominated him. If he gets past Lombard whose arguably the scariest dude at 170, then there's no stopping him
Having said that, Shields will manage to find a way to lay on Lombard for 3 rounds...but hopefully someone can thwart a Shields title run because that is the last thing I want to see now that the division is finally interesting again.

for a pro fighter, his stand-up is horrible.
he makes up for it with his conditioning, grappling, etc etc...

Eyepokes did a lot of that, but it wasn't an easy fight, GSP just does what SHields does better and has enough defense to shut his grappling down so it's more of a stalemate in GSP's favour

This is,a quote from an article I read back in Oct. and I think it's pretty spot on. Shields doesnt have the most beautiful strikiing in the world, but it is effective.
"I have seen a number of comments posted on various corners of the internet claiming that Jake Shields is the worst striker in the UFC. His striking might not be visually impressive but is much more effective than many people give him credit for. Shields doesn’t have much knockout power but is a very underrated point striker.
According to Fight Metric statistics, Shields lands 2.74 significant strikes per minute and absorbs only 1.91. Those are not all ground strikes either. Against Tyron Woodley, Shields completely failed to take the fight to the ground but was still able to out-point Woodley 82-60 in significant strikes. Against welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, Shields was only out-pointed by an 85-78 margin in significant strikes. This includes just a 39-29 advantage for St-Pierre in the first two rounds before he was poked in the eye.
The reality is that Shields has the statistical advantage in a striking match against Maia. Both fighters absorb strikes at a similar rate – 1.91 per minute for Shields, 1.75 per minute for Maia. However, Shields lands strikes at a much higher rate than Maia – 2.74 for Shields, 1.82 for Maia. Shields has only absorbed more significant strikes than he’s landed in five out of 18 fights scored by Fight Metric. It’s unlikely that Maia is good enough to make it six."
