Guilty. I picked up boxing shortly after MMA. Though I was pretty young at the time. Hard to say if I would have gotten into boxing without MMA. Maybe, maybe not.
^^^ hey man most combat sports are entertaining
I lost all respect for Ortiz. I will never root for him again. He said he would rather quit instead of fighting on and risking getting hurt. He's 22 years old right? Dude sounded like he was giving a retirement speech.
^^^^^ it was very strange

Yeah, I thought that was incredible.
Max hit the nail on that one
during his pre-fight interview I had a feeling that he said things that crossed his mind....
seemed like too many thoughts racing through his mind and he does not edit

Regarding Victor Ortiz. Last night I had to turn the channel after the fight. I just felt bad for him b/c no matter what he was feeling he didn't need to say what he said unless he really is done. I met Victor in Oxnard, CA when I was working the PAL boxing tournament there.
I have to say that he was one of the nicest, most personable people I have ever met that had that much going for him. I am a fan of his no matter what happens with him but I really hope that this is a motivating dark spot in an otherwise great career b/c he is an exciting fighter and seemed like a good person. He's been prepping for that moment for so long and it definately got the best of him.
I think Magic8 is probably right. I was shocked by his post-fight comments.
The camera crew didn't get a good shot but it looked like he waved the fight off after he got knocked down for the last time.
I also think his corner put the idea of quitting in his head. His cornerman told him at least twice that he was going to stop the fight before the last round because he kept dropping his hands.
Someone probably has been putting the idea in his head that he can be a "star."

Listen to his interview during the pre-fight, even the story about his father in the police station, something just seemed a little off.
Needs to realize the camera, the media, and the public at large is not a room full of your friends.
still just seemed like such a kid, no matter what he was thinking he should not have said that at the end.
I find boxing fights to be of higher quality, each guy is going to be above average striker. MMA matches are very inconsistent, even if you get two decent strikers against each other, 3 rounds of sloppy punches turns out to be very boring to me.
The dude knew he was going down & so did everyone else. HIs opponent & his corner knew it before the fight started.
Damn good fight while it lasted but its hard to say what Ortiz's next move will be to me that sounded like a guy who didnt want to continue with his boxing career.

I love both, but agree with this.
With the diverse set of skills in MMA and everyone in love with cross training, it can easily end up with a bunch of hugging and stomps and sloppy striking. Groundwork goes nowhere, OK standup. Wash rinse repeat.
Amatuer(ish) MMA is often painful but I can watch the 4 rounders on Friday Night Fights no problem. Actually, the Olympics have a bad rap, but amatuer boxing is still generally entertaining to me.
And a great boxing match is something to behold. Cotto vs Clottey was my fight of the year (any style) so far, hopefully he or Mosley vs. Pac happens in November.
Sorry to hear Ortiz had a bad showing.

I still watch boxing and so do many of my friends. We fall into the 18-35 male demographic. If a big fight is on I will watch. I love MMA but I'll take a 10rd or 12rd boxing war any day of the week over MMA.
