help me choose a bike for my father

We are buying a bike for my dad. He went to the store and saw two models he liked:

Trek 7300 (670can$)

Gary Fisher Zebrano (630can$)

He wants me to help him choose but i don't know really what to look for. Which would you choose? Do you know where they are assembled?

Trek 7300 is a very good bike (as is Gary Fisher), and it does not have the completely unnecessary and ineffective front fork springs. The Trek will be lighter due to the plain forks. Unless he's riding offroad in ruts, ask the dealer to put 32" road riding slick tires on them (larger contact patch for the road and actually better traction). They should be willing to swap them out for minimal charge.

Make sure you get the right size frame, as there is a sloping top tube. If you watch the sales, Oct/Nov is a pretty good time to buy and get a deal as the new bikes are starting to come in.

there is actually a front suspension on the trek.

Ah, then you prob. want the 7300FX which has no suspension. It's cheap, low travel distance and won't work and just adds weight. The price might be cheaper than the suspended version.
