I think that the speculation is muted simply because this is Wanderlei. We have such deep and abiding belief in him as a warrior that we trust implicitly that this was done to improve his ability to keep fighting!
It's interesting, though. The results of his surgery look very similar to someone whom I know very well who had cosmetic surgery in an attempt to reverse some structural facial changes that came about as a result of long-term use of Human Growth Hormone.
