final record 38-13-2

I liken him to the Japanese Dan henderson. Fought anybody anywhere regardless of weight, most of his losses come to Super HWs, HWs and LHWs. I believe under current UFC weight cutting methods, he would be a 170er.

Winning the first Rings HW title as a worked fight?

Had some good fights against some great opponents though.

Yoshida Tamura was one of the most exciting fights ever IMO.

YOshida's chin had never been tested, YOshida never really took shots to the face prior and it was some awesome jap on jap crime.

It was intense. People laughed as Yoshida won and predicted the first MMA homicide with his next fight against a prime Wand.

some of the rings fights were works true.

But he sent shockwaves throughout the NHB world when he whupped on patrick smith.

legend, u-style!!!

i believe he deserves HOF status. He was an early pioneer, and his accomplishments in MMA eclipse those of any other early gracie like royler, renzo, royce etc.

He was a very underrated fighter. He was basically a welterweight who fought LHWs and HWs most of his career, and even managed to win against a fair share of them. He got thrown to the wolves quite a bit in his Pride career,(Wanderlei, Big Nog, Sapp), but was more than a match for anybody in the world who was close to his weight.

Gave a prime Frank Shamrock all he could handle, beat Jeremy Horn, Pat Militech, Maurice Smith, Renzo Gracie and a host of others.

Definitely an all time great, but I'd doubt that many on this forum even know who he is. In fact I'm sure he'd be referred to as a "Japanese Can" but some of our less respectful members.

ttt

Im always suspect of the popular Japanese pro wrestlers that made the transition to mma at that time.

Sure they fought a lot of named fighters, and many of them were legit fights, but there was a lot of works mixed in there too.

Pride included in that.

How many of their wins were because their opponents were offered more money to lose, like Guy Mezger and Rampage have attested to being offered.

That is why i have a hard time considering that the best era of mma. Lots of Shady stuff in Japan where there are no commissions and the Yakuza has a hand in your organization.

I'll actually see him as a guy who could've been better than he was.

Had he started training MMA earlier, he could've been as good as Sakuraba.

Tamura was a top flight wrestler back when Saku was jobbing to Americans.

He'll be remembered as one of Wanderlei's many Japanese victims.

i think he fought with too much pride and too many principles. Like he would rarely want to hit people on the ground, and he had this kind of silent rage, but also this vulnerability. strange.

takada/tamura was a carry gone wrong I believe. takada was not supposed to have been KOed like that in his retirement fight

You mean the script didnt go according to plan? lol.

everything after Pride 25 was legit.

before 25, i believe there may have been a few works, most of them involving takada.

some were admitted like otsuka/takada.

Legend. Would fight anyone. Shouldn't have fought Sapp though. That was tough for me to watch. Phone Post

i belive he would beat SAPP now.

sapp still had the aura back then when tamura stepped up. back then fedor was even scared of sapp. balls of steel.

Unfortunately his absence in American soil prevents him to be known to many MMA fans. Sadly, Pride is pretty unknown to many MMA fans. The only thing that matters to new MMA fans is whether the fighter was in the UFC or not. Phone Post

most posters with pre 07 join dates should remember him.

Yes, because people could not possibly have been MMA fans before registering here. Take that bs back to sherdog.
