I am a sad Herring fan :(

My man got handled tonight, bad match up against a hella good wrestler.

Next time.

He'll come back. He's got time, and a crappy weight division to climb up. He'll be back and I'm still a fan.

You didn't have to be that great a wrestler to pass Heath's non-existant guard. What was up with that?

I agree that he lacked the xplosiveness needed to get into position for his attacks.

I have been held down by great wrestlers in BJJ class and it gets really tiring and frustrating, BUT-he is Heath Herring the Texas Crazy Horse and I expected him to turn it around right up to the last bell.

Yeah I like Heath but I thought he'd have realized the wrestling game would be more prevalent in the octagon and he'd need to learn it. His wrestling skills are still absent.

That O'Brien guy was skilled but painful to watch. He's on the "potent sedative" warning list with Smith, Militech, Arona, Horn, etc...

That was a terrible fight and I was embarrassed for and dissappointed in Heath. I though he was going to annihilate O'brien and instead he looked like an amateur.

Jake is that good...

I could tell that Jakes wrestling was amazing, bad match up for Heath.

Heath vs Paul Buentello would have been cool if Paul was still there.

he did look bad, lets just hope he gets better over time, he has got to work on the sprawl and subs man....

While I was thoroughly impressed by O'brian, I was at the same time miffed by Herring's performance. Different fighter than what we have seen in the past with his Pride fights.

i was let down with herring's performance tonight too. all i keep thinking is why was he standing in that crouching form? avoid the takedown? well whatever it was it looked horrible. god i hope dana let's him back in for another fight. but please leave that crouching stance at home.

Am I the only one that is LOLing about people talking about Herring getting his Guard "passed"?

Herring doesn't try to hold Guard. He does a loose Half Guard or even bottom of Side Control vs Closed Guard. He seems to prefer it.

I think he needed another two rounds to make his Mark Kerr strategy work. That's two rounds he ain't gonna get in the UFC.

that fight was frustrating and boring to watch. pretty much the only bad fight tho. good night of fights

Herring has done well against wrestlers in the past, beating both Mark Kerr and Tom Eriksen. Of course those guys were somewhat past their athletic prime and ran out of gas while holding him down, the new breed of American MMA-wrestlers won't do him that favour.

I am still Herring fan. Bummer night, for sure. I did like his post fight comments. Yeah, the other guy won the rasslin match, but that's not what we're trying to do here.

All due respect to Obrien, and I'll give credit where it is due. He's a talented wrestler and did what he had to and won the fight. With that said, his performance was boring, and not what I watch MMA for. On the same note, Herring did not, or was not able to, do anything to make it very exciting either.

I just hope we get to see my man Heath fight again. Not real sure if I care to see Obrien fight again.

Good win for O'Brien but come on. You have full mount 5-8 times and his back 5-8 times and are no where near finishing the fight.

UFC don't ever make me pay $50 to watch that. Herring wasn't even holding on in the 3rd he had his arms out telling Big John this guy is just laying on me.

Horrible, horrible fight. If I wanted to watch that I will turn on the Iowa vs Purdue dual meet not MMA.

Man WTF was with Herring's punching?
Just plain horrible IMO.

Heath needs that proverbial 6 months of sprawl training, big time.
They showed a clip of O'Brien on Inside the UFC and he said he
was surprised at how easy he was to take down.

That hunchback stance was painful to watch and it wasn't helping
him do anything offensive at all.

As a Heath fan, I was really surprised by that fight. Heath was known as a wrestler/ ground and pounder. His stand up has never been his strong point. Hope he returns to his roots.

I was also a little confused by Heath's "stance" in his stand up. He didn't work it like that when trained with Team Golden Glory. His standup back then was not devistating, but it was at least effective. Last night's standup against Obrien was not very effective (although he did manage to rock him twice).
