Given the poor ratings on FOX and if the decline in PPV numbers EBeaver posted are accurate what does it say about ZUFFA and the MMA business in general?

300 000 is about how many buys WWE gets for a good PPV. So the UFC can make a living off that but don't expect world domination. Phone Post

Isnt this the most heavily promoted event in years? And Vince knows what turns the dial. Stars. Bringing rock back could be a big deal.

However, this is why im asking the question, i've never watched wrestling.

But if stars sell PPV for wrestling and ZUFFA refuses to give us the marquee fights it may speak to their lack of evolving management skills.

They get like 80k in attendance. I would bet its well over 500k buys.

And to answer op

It says nothing about mma as a sport, UFC and WWE are leagues apart. It will take the UFC 40 years to catch where wwe is right now. It's like comparing Super Bowl numbers to the Stanley cup finals.. 2 completely different animals. Phone Post

really?
http://www.wrestlezone.com/news/244981-wwe-2011-ppv-buy-rate-information-vs-2010-numbers
looks like aside from 1 event a year wwe ppv numbers are pretty shitty too....only 2 events in 2011 with over 300k ppv buys.

Can I ask you what marquee fights UFC is refusing to give fans?

GSP/Silva and SIlva/Jones? those are the only two you can name and GSP is hurt and doesnt want to move up and niether does Silva.

So the UFC should force them so you can post how UFC treats their fighters like shit and forces them to do things they dont want to do.

Anyway doesnt this show do huge numbers every year but then they go back to like 160k a show, they have like three big events a year I think and this one will be huge since they have been promoting it for a year.

And maybe you missed the Fox ratings but doing 9 mill for the first show and over 6 mill for the second show I wouldnt exactly call those bad ratings.

It won't do huge numbers. The lead in was terrible. The Rock-Cena was handled wrong and CM Punk's momentum was crushed by HHH.

If there was better booking of the Rock, an advertised Lesnar appearence and CM Punk keeping his shoot character from the summer, it would do UFC 100 numbers.

Bobby Lupo -  It won't do huge numbers. The lead in was terrible. The Rock-Cena was handled wrong and CM Punk's momentum was crushed by HHH.

Dont watch wrestling anymore, havent since I i was a kid but I've seen the commercials and heard people talking about it for the last year, its the big even they do, they've been promoting this shit for a year that Rock/Cena fight, the shit will do big numbers.

It should def approach the million buy mark or exceed it.

1 mill is a huge number, it may not do 1.5, UFC 100 numbers or Floyd PPV numbers but anything close to a mill is huge, this event should def do close to a mill if not more.

I completely disagree. Both are completely comparable and quantifiable.

my parents are actually buying the ppv..

chokeyou - But if stars sell PPV for wrestling and ZUFFA refuses to give us the marquee fights it may speak to their lack of evolving management skills.

What fights are they refusing to give us?

SILVA V BONES,

There isnt another match up that is nearly as intriguing.

If it ain't Dutch, it ain't much - UFC numbers this year are actually better then what most expected, none of the first 3 cards had a huge draw on them and Diaz did far better then expected. With big cards this summer/fall:
May: Hwt title
June: Silva vs Sonnen
July 4th card
GSP return in Nov

The UFC could break PPV records this year.

As far as WWE, look at the stock price, it's way low because declining PPV rates, I think they are down like 12% from last year and down from the year before. More fans are going over to UFC each year.

WM is a different animal though, they will want to get 1,000,000 buys at least for this and I would say they should be in that area because of the Rock/Cena feud.

UFC break records this year? yeah right. 2010 had 9 mill buys, had 3 1 mill buy shows, every card was like 500k, no way they come close to that.

Some big fights, Rashad/Jones I think can do 600k, maybe 700k, Silva/Sonnen same thing, JDS/Reem 500k, GSP return can do 800k cause its GSP but thats not breaking the record, not even close.

And the July card is again Faber/Cruz, that card wont do huge buys.

Like nobones said there aren't any of boxing or major MMA PPV this month do WM might do well. Phone Post

Haadogei - funny, i stopped coming on here because of all the people like chokeyou. I recognized his username as one of the few dozen or so habitual, angry, anti-UFC trolls that sort of ruin the message boards. Then I saw the thread title and his name and took the bait, just for laughs.

and, yes, it is a stupid, UFC hating thread. Shocking.

You're right chokeyou, UFC sucks, it's declining, it's gonna die out, WWE, boxing and Pride are/were 100 times better than UFC, blah blah blah.

10 years, 23,000 posts.....people get it already. You don't like UFC. So here's a thought - stop posting every day on an mma website.

why would you return to a place with free exchange of ideas? Seems more like you should be on thee UFC message board.

champion vs. champion bouts are only good for 1 event. After that the loser isn't nearly as marketable, so why think of the short term? Even if the lighter wieght class fighter wins people call it a fluke, ie hendo/fedor.
