Is Ed Soares Bad For Silva?

It seems any time a tough middleweight title match is proposed by the UFC, Ed Soares runs his mouth to the media about how the possible opponent shouldn't fight his client. Before the Vitor Belfort fight for example, Soares whined and nervously insisted the fight didn't make sense. A flood of backlash came Silva's way and people believed he was scared. Silva ended up taking the fight anyway and destroying Belfort with ease in the first round proving that the complaining was an unecessary excercise alltogether.

Now Soares is at it again and (for the second time now) bitching about a fight with Sonnen. It's widely known that Silva has never turned down a fight and more than likely wouldn't turn this one down either. In fact, he calmly told Ariel Helwani shortly before his fight with Okami that he'd accept a rematch with Chael if Dana called him up.

Since we all know the fight will happen anyway, WHY IS SOARES BITCHING TO THE MEDIA?! He's making his client look scared for NO REASON at all and basically blowing hot air to the public. There's no rhyme or reason behind it EVEN IF Silva was scared so why does he do this? Silva has 9ine to broker awesome sponsorships for him so I'm not so sure he needs Soares anymore. I realise Soares is good for contract negotiations but think it would behoove him to pull a JDS and get a guy who won't tarnish his image with stupid PR.

No manager in their right mind publicly whines about a lucrative and important fight for their client when there's basically no better options out there.

HEY 10'er

Let me save you some time:

There are close to 1,000 threads stating that SOARES IS ALLOWED TO HAVE AN OPINION.

UFC makes the fights... Anderson has never backed out of a fight.

yer welcome.

Please READ my post. I don't think Anderson is scared and I'm 99.9% sure this fight will happen without a hitch and Silva will be confident in himself as always. I'm just saying Soares' opinion WILL reflect on Silva no matter what the truth really is. He represents him so he should be careful what he expresses publicly.

This; great story OP but search function works great Phone Post

Soares is a glorified translator, he needs to shut his mouth (unless he's actually translating!!)

Yea as current middleweight champ, undefeated in the UFC and concensus no#1 P4P leader, clearly soares has not done a good job with andersons career.

I'm TS. And I'm a fan of Anderson Silva and don't believe he's scared. I'm just saying Soares is making Silva look bad by complaining about the rematch publicly. Look around the forums as well as Bloody Elbow if you don't believe it's producing negative backlash/speculation of ducking.

The ONLY REASON people all over the internet are swearing up and down that Silva doesn't want this match is because SOARES DOESN'T WANT IT and wants everyone to know this for some reason. The UFC won't scrap the fight because Soares complains in public so it's simply terrible PR. He should let Silva speak for himself on these things anyway.

Oh knows Soares is looking out for his fighter.

First you say any time a tough MW comes up. Then you say this is only the second time. Well? Phone Post

Oh and p.s they most likely asked him if he thinks Chael or Vitor deserve it and he says no. Probably ecause he thinks that much of Andy, not that little. Phone Post

double post

Soares was right in both cases you talk about...Vitor only beat Rich Franklin @ 195 and got a shot...And he finished Sonnen who was juicing for the fight, one fight against an opponent he was supposed to beat should not earn you a title shot.

No, it's the second time as in it's the second time he compalained about Sonnen specifically. In 2010 (right after the Marquardt fight), he said Sonnen should rematch Maia first.

Silva doesn't fear Sonnen but Soares does.

I think Soares causes a lot of heat for Anderson but if Anderson likes him so what?

In response to BrockBack, what does Soares have to do with Anderson being undefeated in the UFC and being considered by some journalists the #1 P4P? I'd support your statement if maybe Soares was also his head trainer, but I doubt Soares has ever even held a pad.

He's a manager with a number of high profile clients, but obviously Anderson is his money maker. It's in his best interest to protect him even if he likely doesn't need to.

Soares protects Anderson, but ome thing is for certain.

IN ALL THE INTERVIEWS HE HAS GIVEN, THE WORDS "CHAEL P SONNEN (R)", HAS NEVER LEFT SILVA'S LIPS*.

*unless the question was about Chael

Soares wants to protect his money making machine that Silva is. Common sense.

Now, how long until someone makes a Fedor/M1 statement? "Nah, Victor aint worthy. Nah, we already beat Hendo. Nah, Chael is not our boss, he is on the bottom of the title shot list, with Victor."

Odds are Silva will destroy anyone that is put in his path, but his management is not keeping a good company line to reassure us.

5 year unbeaten longest running champ massive sponsorship deals.

Yeah he's been an unmitigated fucking disaster of a manager. Phone Post

What the fuck are you talking about?

Who has silva EVER ducked? Nobody so fuck off.

Good post. I agree, Soares comments makes no sense. Phone Post
