I know this thread is a bit late but IMHO Frankie has elevated his wrestling for MMA to new levels. The way he chained his takedowns together and his double blasting through after slipping the right...wow, a thing of beauty.
Some will say Askren or maybe others but no one right now outdoes Frankie.
If you agree or disagree please share your thoughts. I for one was genuinely impressed.

He's up there, but I'd put DC and Askren ahead.
To be fair, it's not like Cub is known for his TDD. Siver held him down for awhile, that's how he has a lot of his losses.

I think part of the reason he gets taken down so much is because he gets so tires, which is odd because Wrestlers are known for great cardio
potato623 -Like I say I'm not a wrestling expert, but I did remember sonnen speaking specifically about yoel after the Brunson fight I believe. He said to win a world championship does not equate to unstoppable takedowns or takedown defence. What was his success rate against Aldo?
I love Frankie hes a beast but he dominated a fighter whos always had suspect wrestling. Brilliant performance but do that against Aldo, Mendes, or Lamas not saying he cant beat those guys but they have way better take down defense than Cub Swanson.

I know Cub doesn't have great TTD but he gave it his very best effort and was just dominated. Frankie out wrestled BJ in their 2nd fight in a way I'm not sure GSP did in their 2nd.
As far as Romero, I don't mean credentials, I mean how they've adapted and applied their wrestling to MMA and how effective it is. Romero has the best credentials but like someone pointed out that doesn't directly apply to how it comes out in the MMA game.
To me, just me, the most important aspects of wrestling for MMA are, takedowns (obviously), stopping the takedown, ground control and scrambling when down. Certain aspects of the wrestling gae don't transfer, things that might make you a champion even in wrestling itself.
Mendes ad Askren are the only two I see giving him a real run of active MMA fighters in this category. Cormier is up there but has relied more on his hands in most fights.
Man it would be great to see Mendes- Edgar next! The striking would be compelling but the wrestling would be off the chain!
GSP is the best wrestler for MMA ever...
Now that he is gone... Edgar is next in line...
Again... the question isn't the best wrestler... but the best wrestler for MMA.

Edgar's chain wrestling is great. I think a fight with Mendes is in order to crown the 145 wrestling king.
VU that's what I'm talking about....the idea of that fight even being a possibility is exciting for me!
It's gotta be that shore conference competition he faced every day at TRE. NJ HS Wrestling is the best :)
