Is the UFC making an example of Nate Diaz?

Now, I'm not positive what he wants exactly, although I think it's safe to assume it is more money. But I do know the UFC does not want to set a precedent of allowing one of their signed fighters to strong arm them for more money.

I don't think anyone is doubting that they could give Nate Diaz a hefty pay raise and it wouldn't hurt their wallets. I think Nate is serving as an example that fighters who "go on strike" are simply replaced.

Dana put a fork in Nate Diaz, he's done.. Nate has too much 'pride' to fold Phone Post 3.0

No. They are not.

Nate's already one of the highest paid fighters on the roster. He makes more money than some of the champions do!

What are his great accomplishments that makes him deserve more money? Winning TUF some time in the last decade? Challenging for the title? Please...

He's a good draw and has been in a ton of crazy awesome fights, but every day that he sits on the sidelines fighting on twitter instead of in the octagon is another day that his fanbase shrinks and his buying power diminishes.

Andrew S - He is 1 fight in on a contract he was happy with until Gil got a much nicer contract. Now he thinks he is owed Gil money.

Nate is serving as an example of a brat whining that what his brother got is better than what he got.
This. He thinks just cause he wants more money he should get it. Maybe get a couple of more wins an you might be deserving of a new contract. Eventually he will fold an come back Phone Post 3.0

You answered your own question. "He's a good draw and been in crazy ass fights". Look at the two people fighting in tonight's main event. Nate put a beat down on Cerrone and absolutely smashed Miller.

I'm not saying I agree with him and that he should be holding out for more money. He signed the contract and he should honor it. But I have no issues with Nate being on the upper end of the UFC pay scale. Phone Post 3.0

Yes. They're showing that they'll starve you out. Mma and exciting fights aren't gonna stop because Nate wants a new contract Phone Post 3.0

Of course they are. History has shown shown us that the UFC wants total control over its fighters and will gladly make examples out of any who dare to challenge them.

I'm certainly not saying that Nate couldn't have been wiser along the way, but it's laughable to assume that UFC brass is always fair or right in how it treats fighters.

Mighty mouse and TJ. And Barao before TJ. Just on their base contract. PPV points might get them more, but those guys aren't getting very many buys even though they are awesome to watch Phone Post 3.0

Nate was saying in one interview that he was fighting for $60,000 show / $60,000 win... Barao was technically interim champ at the time of his fight with Wineland, but he was fighting for $11,000 show / $11,000 win.  It looks like he was able to renegotiate his contract after that fight, but technically Diaz was making more than him.

I think that says more about the UFC underpaying a champ than it does about the Diaz situation, though.

Showing the world how mma fans support the company, not the fighters. The rebirth of Don King, except this time the goal is to give fighters the least amount of the profit as possible, but keep the fans on the promoters side. Without fan support, the fighters will NEVER have leverage.

Renegotiating contracts is normal. It's his life and well being on the line. If the UFC forces him to quit fighting, because they were smarter than him and had him sign a one sided contract that he can't get out of (time limit or forever on his contract?) the REAL fight fans lose. It's his ass on the line. If Nate was a millionaire, maybe I'd be mad at him. After enjoying 18 fights in the ufc, seeing him win TUF, throwing a water bottle at mayhem, and really always putting on a show, I can't be mad. He isn't rich, he is fighting for the biggest mma organization, at the absolute highest level in the world, and everyone is waiting for him to "run out of money so he has to fight."

Fucking pathetic this kosher in the mma community. Phone Post 3.0

I'll probably get banned for fighter bashing Dana. Phone Post 3.0

Why exactly are fans(neutral ones, not rabid Diaz fans) suppose to blindly support the fighters? Cause they are fighting for Zuffa? I don't necessarily support Zuffa but what I do support is a contracted employee being held to the terms of a contract he just agreed too. If people should be mad at anyone, they should be pissed at Diaz's manager that got him the shit deal.

trobinson21 - Nate is second in "of the night" bonuses, has 12 wins in the UFC and found out Gil is making a lot more jack.

Of course he is upset, any if you would be also. Getting lowballed at work sucks, but signing contracts causes that. I can go to another bank if I find out a peer has a much sweeter deal, fighters dont always have that luxury. Phone Post 3.0
Is that true? Second. Damn. He always puts on a show.

I can't believe the lack of support he gets. Fight fans, no. Dana fans, yes. Phone Post 3.0

How? By offering him fight after fight?

There's nothing UFC can do to someone who doesn't want to honor their contract. from what i've heard, most contracts can be renegotiated after 2-3 wins.

so he's fought once. he probably needs 1-2 fights to be able to renegotiate. why isn't he? that's not UFC's fault

I have no issues with Nate being on the upper end of the UFC pay scale either. My point was, he's already there. There are dudes in the top-10 of their divisions making a fraction of what Diaz does but you don't see them hussing and fussing about their pay. Diaz could be making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year on his current contract if he chose to be an active member of the roster.

But what he's doing is demanding Anderson Silva money, without any Anderson Silva accomplishments. He's a better fighter than most, so he gets paid better than most. But he loses the big fights. To get paid like a champ, he has to win those too.

Love his fights, but no sympathy here as far as his pay is concerned.

Diaz bros sell tickets, Zuffa should know this already.

The time to stonewall is inbetween contracts, not in the middle of them. Nate is doing this to himself, and in this rare instance DFWJr is not the catalyst.
