J. Delucia never King of Pancrase?

I though Jason Delucia was a very good student of the game. I thought he was actually better than Guy Mezger. Why then did Jason never get the King Of Pancrase belt whereas Guy Did? I believe he came close, but didn't get it. Please correct me if I'm wrong. He had so much potential. I think he might have a couple of fights left in him. He might be up there with Ryushi Yanagisawa. Yanagisawa came close a couple of times too, but couldn't get it. Even Takahashi got the KOP. Your thoughts?

Probably because a lot of early Pancrase was worked.

can someone please explain what "KKM" means.

Yanagisawa was just big, he was never that good.

DeLucia was good and tricky, but his style left him open a lot. It was too sloppy to consistently beat good fighters. But he was very fun to watch.

Takahashi won the heavyweight KOP. He never won the open weight title. And he really didn't beat anyone good to win or defend the title. He was basically a very good fighter in a weak division. And he STILL lost a non-title match to Ozawa (who he later destroyed when the title was on the line).

Too flaky. Not tough enough.

He was 2-6-1 in his last 9 fights.. guess he made the right decision and retired. He was pretty good prior to that though

"can someone please explain what "KKM" means" I still dont Know what that nonsence means. Just take it as some stupid saying the UG uses to diss someone.

Most people who use KKM now weren't even around when KKM was here.

kkm is ...like.. a legend....man

The funny thing about Delucia is that he to this day...... Thinks he can beat Bas Rutten. Bas killed him all 3 times easily. The situation reminds me of fedor vs Nog lol.

The guy sure was entertaining in Pancrase, even when he lost he gave it his all.

I lked Jason's first fight as an alternate in the UFC.

After he choked out his opponnent, the announcer asked something like, "I thought you were a Kung Fu man. Are you a ground fighter, too?" Jason replied,"I am now."

Jason was in the right place a the right time when he fought in Japan for Pancrase- one of the pioneer's in Japan MMA.

"Don't you read black belt magazine??"

LOL not since the late 80s early 90s.... Does blakbelt have a website (:

Yanagisawa is terrible IMO. Its like he had all his fights while he was half asleep or stoned. Somehow we went the distance with Fedor in RINGS though

KKM is oldschool...

hi KKM

One of the few guys who was hated by the Lion's Den AND the Gracies.

"It seemed like he was ahead of his time in terms of being willing to train with several different camps in an effort to become more well rounded."

I agree. Started out as 5 Animals kung fu, fought in Boston's Chinatown in illegal matches, camped out at Steven Seagal's dojo in LA in an attempt to fight him, heard about the Gracie challenge and fought Royce in a challenge match at the Torrance academy, got his ass beat, trained briefly at Torrance, entered UFC 1 and 2, lost to a pissed off Royce by armbar (and broke his leg throwing a sidekick), became one of the first members of Ken Shamrock's Lion's Den, became a pretty good submission guy, fought in Japan in Pancrase, coached a young Frank Shamrock, had some epic beatdowns by Bas Rutten, then his career really nosedived after he left the Lion's Den and had his leg messed up in UFC Japan 2 by Joe Slick.

He even came really close to armbarring Fedor. Very, very odd.

There's a very interesting interview with Delucia in the last issue of Total MMA (http://www.total-mma.com) where he talks about the goings on of early Pancrase. Whether it's to be believed or not is a different matter, but it's a very good read.

Urban Legend Alert! Jason doesn't have any problems with the Gracies and never has; people are making it up when they say Royce tried to break his arm out of spite, it didn't happen that way.

And what grounds do you have for saying the Lion's Den hates him?

There's a lot of misinformation floating around; better to get it right than just repeating what other people are saying.

Was there a back story to Royce vs DeLucia?

Royce must have been a bit pissed if Jason was/had been a Torrance student.
