Top heavyweight contender Junior Dos Santos recently announced he was breaking away from managers Ed Soares and Jorge Guimarães. The split appears amicable, while Soares has voiced a degreee or surprise, both sides have voiced continued friendship.

“For now I have a lawyer in the US and she's already taking care of my business … We are in touch with the UFC and we let them know we changed things. For now I'm with her and as soon as I see how things will work then I'll look for my new manager - if I need one."

“To be honest I really don't know exactly what a manager does and I questioned this before making my decision ... Of course he'll sign contracts, help my career, and plan my camps. But I don't know exactly what's his function ... It's not clear for me."

“The manager has to be at your side all the time making sure you have everything you need. I'm not saying Joinha and Ed Soares didn't do this but perhaps they didn't satisfy our needs… I don't think they failed me.

“Perhaps they could've give me a bit more attention ... I want to be the top priority. I work hard and I always focus on my career. I want someone that'll dedicate himself to my interests. My work demands that much attention.”

“The UFC is such an organized company that they themselves are [practically] our own managers. Usually they already do anything they want in the US. The manager doesn't have much of a say in UFC's decisions.... Of course they help here and there but it's very little.”

ttt for ed sinister

Heard he's in talks with Drew Rosenhaus

Once you are in the UFC they own you. The manager can't pick and choose who you are going to fight and the UFC has a lot of control over what sponsors are available as well. Phone Post

OveREEMed A New Butthole - He has a point actually, WTF is a manager for?
Try contract negotiations... I'd love to see Cigano sitting at the end of the table solo... wondering if he should accept the first lowball offer thrown his way.....

If he loses a fight and UFC offers him a deep pay cut, then he'll realize why he needs a manager

Man, perfect time for Ken Pavia to jump on JDS and get him wrapped up with his team of fighters!

Hahahahahahahahahaha!! No it wouldn't! Carry on here!

I guess this makes DANA WHITE Stalin.

And what Ed Soares is going to do? Dana can tell him accept the deal or get lost. Phone Post
LOL.

You have no idea what concessions have been made by UFC during negotiations do you......

Anyone who accepts their first offer is a fool. Many haven't....

His manager got this guy on tuf. I hope Cain rocks him. Not a loyal dude see - he dissed his own coach on tuf not that I liked him. Guys head is swelling- thinks he's bigger than he is. Guys a great fighter but without soares he would be on tuf or getting a shot. Starting to dislike his character. Phone Post

subd

managers may be needing this soon:

duckhuntgangsta - Beginning of the end. A fighter needs to focus on fighting. Not managing their career. This will be a distraction for JDS and he will lose the title fight.

I think his point is there isn't anything to manage. UFC sets up the publicity appearances, sets up sponsorships, schedules the fights.

So what happens when the UFC cuts you?

If you have a manager and the UFC cuts you, you can stay at his house or get a job working for him?

If you are a top level fighter and the UFC cuts you, you are fucked with or without a manager.

Junior doesn't need a manager, he needs a valet.
