Joe Rogan WHEELKICK!!!!

Scary Phone Post

Joe, what kind of lizard was that?

Also, I love how into it you are, and your knowledege is outstanding but your style is awesome, you made it look SOOOO EASY, but as you can see with GSP, even he is having abit of trouble.

Joe is good for the sport, thats for sure, btw, when will the new Joe Rogan Experience be released? :)

Subd Phone Post

It's freaky when Rogan goes out to interview some fighters, even higher weight classes and next to them it looks like he's wearing mini-football shoulder pads under his shirt. (no homo).

Nice - very few people can knock the 'dummy' completely over, twice in a row with a spinning heel. Great front leg pick up kick right at the end.

Nobody fucks with Joe Rogan... Phone Post

Holy shit, nice kicks Joe!

It is clear that you have one BAD turning side kick! I wouldn't want to get hit with that!

Ah, that's where that is!  I've got to remove that and put it online by itself.

Thanks!
you're welcome Joe!

i love MTS and can't wait to see some more Tae Kwon Joe segments. and also some more joe and renato

Def need to get some vid of joes old tkd days. I would pay money to see some of his old fights.

I'm still praying that snipes comes out of jail dead broke and finally accepts the challenge to fight joe. Phone Post

does anyone know if joe competed in wtf or itf? btw in tkd the first kick rogan did is a reverse turning kick, the second is a reverse hooking kick. both lethal when done by joe. Phone Post

I believe he was #2 or 1 in the nation but I havent a clue through which governing body. Phone Post

The Swinging Richard -
RaginRedneck169 - One of the coolest Tae Kwon Joe segments is when he was training with GSP...watching Joe show him his mistakes was awesome.

That is epic. Joe is a true beast! Phone Post

I competed in both, but mostly WTF.  I won the ITF US open one year though.   Back in the day I fought in every tournament I could get into, even the occasional point Karate event.  Once I started kick boxing though I lost my appetite for everything other than that.  There are some awesome techniques in TKD but as a straight competition style it's hard to take seriously without punches to the face.

I wonder if having the hand planted in the 2nd kick adds any to the force of impact? There's that whole triangle thing right? Where your legs form a triangle and acts as a base for your punch. So putting your hand down would effectively replace one side of the triangle lost from the kick going up. But I guess if he's not planting from the hand it doesn't matter either way?

No, if anything it takes away from the power of the kick because his weight is not moving forward.

It's SUCH a powerful kick though that when it lands on the jaw correctly with the heel even at 60% power it's a KO shot.

Joe, whats the best way to train the kick?

On the heavy bag or a punching mitt or one of these???

also, people earlier in the thread were wondering the specifics of how extensive was your TKD background is, if you don't mind us asking.

Those pads are best.  The problem with the heavy bag is that it puts too much strain on the knees during impact.

Those pads, or one of those Century body dummies with the rubber flexible head.  I like those too.

Using a paddle that you just linked the image for is the best way to train a wheel kick/spinning hook kick, but after you get the technique down, you need to try it out extensively in sparring to get the timing down, and even just becoming confident using it because it is not a kick that you naturally feel comfortable using in a fight (you're turning your back, you're not going to see the opponent for a split second, you can even be knocked off balanced using it at times).

It's a terribly hard kick to see coming though if done right, just the trajectory of the heel means you only see it coming out of the corner of your eye, not to mention that at first it looks like a spinning back kick.

Oh yeah, the body dummies are great because it teaches you to fully clear the shoulder with that kick.

From the age of 15 to 21 Take Kwon Do was all I did, just about every day of my life.  I took a day off here and there to rest and because of injuries, but it was essentially my entire life.  I taught it at Boston University at age 19, I had my own school in Revere, Mass, and I fought in countless tournaments.  I won the state championship 4 years in a row, and I won a bunch of national tournaments as well until I started to kick box and do stand up comedy, 2 things that started my path away from Tae Kwon Do and ultimately from competition altogether.
