This rule was made long before USADA did MMA testing. it wasn't written in spirit of a gym, but more for the individual athlete.
It would be wise for the UFC to chance that rule, so fighters still can train on their level even on suspension, or it would be to hard to come back from a suspension on a prof level.

thanks for answering and providing the link.  I knew I had heard or read somewhere that a suspension means staying away from all active pro fighters and trainers, but I couldn't quite remember where or what the details really were.

 

"In short, the UFC Anti-Doping Policy prohibits all athletes from associating with any “Athlete Support Person” (defined to include “any person assisting an athlete in preparing for a Bout” who is serving a period of ineligibility under the policy."

its very simple, he got a 2 years suspension, with a deduction of 1,5 years, because it was a tainted sup which triggered his positive test.
