Jose Aldo has more of a claim to GOAT than Khabib

People sure put a lot of weight on Khabibs Top 3 wins: Poirier, Gaejthe and McGregor….

But in literally under 1 single calendar year, Charles Oliveira has accomplished that near same quality of Top 3 wins against: Poirier, Chandler, and Ferguson (the guy who Khabib infamously never fought after over 5 times trying to make the fight though the blame is mutual there)… in addition to an even greater feat which is the UFC Submission All Time Record regardless of weight class.

Oliveira literally got those Top 3 wins in less than a calendar year… from 12/12/20 to 12/11/21 he accomplished that.

You make a strong case, and I would accept that Aldo had a better run; one of the best in the sport’s history. I just think that Khabib’s hugely dominant wins over Poirier, Gaethje and McGregor are enough to mitigate his lack of longevity.

It’s now become more interesting, though, as Oliveira smoking Poirier after running through two top opponents that Khabib never faced (Chandler and Ferguson) allows us to say that the former champ didn’t clean out the division after all.

On Holloway, whether it’s fair or not, I don’t believe that he lost either of those fights against Volkanovski. To me, he’s a champ without a belt, and I say he beats any version of Aldo at 145.

Fair enough. Agree to disagree on Khabib/Aldo but I see your point.

I think Max/Volk I was scored appropriately but I gave the second fight to Max. Although it’s more the scoring system that I disagree with.

Also Aldo has 11 title wins IIRC. He won the belt, had 9 defenses, then won the interim belt after he lost his undisputed title. Even if you don’t count interim it’s still 10. And 3 wins in a new weight class, 3 fight win streak.
