Khabib wasn’t that good

Tied with like 3 other people? BJ, Benson, and Edgar (and in practical terms Olivera just capped off 3)

Actually, that would have been Olivera’s second title defense but he lost to the scale

You soggy old bastards are going soft in the brain.

Literally, the UG still trying to come to terms with Khabib being the GOAT and besmirching all of their hero’s two years after his retirement

He stole your souls

BJ is one of the least impressive “great” fighters ever. His skillset is shit. His striking is literally just mediocre boxing and an occasional headkick attempt, that’s it. It’s not even fun to watch. It’s the most lackluster, lethargic, fucking meh sport-fighting style.

And he’s supposed to be this big BJJ wiz, a prodigy, and what wild innovative amazing submissions did we ever get? The guy once again, HAD 1 FUCKING MOVE. The guy either got your back and worked into a RNC, or laid on his own back and got the shit beat out of him. For 20 years straight, he either got the easiest, gayest submission ever, which fighters literally will give their opponents as a way to quit without technically quitting, and that’s the ONLY FUCKING MOVE this fake jiu jitsu master ever had.

On top of being boring and a basic bitch, he was also a lazy bullshit fatboy crybaby whiner excuse making sorry ass mama’s boy FUCKING LOSER

The man is a loser. He lost just as much as he won. He might be the only guy with a losing record in every weight class he ever participated in, and he’s got like 5 of them. Lost in them all. He’s the all time record breaking most losing-est loser of all loserdom. LOL

Fuck BJ Penn

Khabib was good no doubt but it’s hard to tell just how good he could’ve been because he walked away just when things we’re heating up.

His father had just passed and I won’t fault him for retiring because that’s one hell of a tragedy for someone who is close to their father to go through.

On the flip you can’t give him accolades he hasn’t earned. So I wouldn’t say he would’ve beaten anyone he hadn’t faced for certain.

The record has more to do with cherry-picking than his inring fighting ability.

In Khabibs 17th pro fight he was making his UFC debut and only had 1 win over an opponent with a Wikipedia page

By the time GSP and Jon Jones were in their 17th pro fights they had already won world titles and beaten more world champs than Khabib beat in his whole career

I have to agree with this. Khabib would have run through the LW division in BJs era. The LW division is way tougher today

But weight bully Khabib would not be able to hold his own against GSP, Hughes, and Machida like BJ did

This thread isn’t about BJ Penn. No one is trying to convince you of his greatness. You’re just hammering my point when you say the guy with more trophies in the sport wasn’t that good.

Bill Russell has 11 rings. Jordan is still considered the GOAT. Why?

Because there was fucking 8 teams when Bill played, and most of them had slow sloppy white boys on the floor. It doesn’t count.

Fatboy BJ getting lucky in 1 welterweight matchup doesn’t mean jack shit to me. BJ beating up a fucking Joe Stevenson, a guy who you throw into a time machine and he’ll go 1-4 against prelim fighters in the modern era…dude, no. Just no.

BJ stinks. His era stinks.

This thread really upset the trolls.

Khabib would never get knocked out by Matt Serra…lol

Can you refer me to the fight against a submission specialist with great hands as well that Khabib won to lead you to thinking he’d beat Charles? His three elite wins, Gaethje, Poirier & Conor, posed absolutely no submission threat.

Iaquinta? Johnson? Horcher?

Dos Anjos is the only one even to consider, and his rise came after the Khabib fight

The careers are so different, young to prime BJ was the best beating Matt Hughes etc, khabib almost loses to tibau at the same point and retired after beating gaethje like that’s a big deal (in comparison to what other legends have done)

To put Penn’s dismantling of Hughes in perspective, it would be like Khabib moving up to WW and smashing GSP in less than a round.

It’s a top 5 win in MMA history, IMO.

Nope. Hughes was shot and a bad stylistic match.

Hughes was shot?

He went on after the BJ loss to win 6 straight, including wins over GSP via submission and BJ in a rematch.

When Penn beat Hughes for the WW strap Hughes was on a 12 fight winning streak and a 4 successful defense streak of the WW belt. He went on to another streak (beating GSP) until he lost to GSP later. What are you even talking about “shot”?

This is one of the dumbest posts I’ve ever seen. You could have just said nothing.

Hughes wasn’t shot -one of his best performances ever came in the second BJ fight.

Hughes severely underestimated BJ in the first fight - he was definitely shot for the third match.

Or moving up and fighting Usman.
