Kron Gracie : Rizin 9/25/16

Sorry but Kron looked garbage. Like Mickey Gall would've murdered Kron. Hopefully he get's better though, he has a lot of promise with his BJJ background. I guess I was just expecting more of a Demian Maia light.

What area of the fight did Kron look like "garbage"? He finished with a submission, his stamina was good, his takedowns were good, and even his striking looked surprisingly decent(not great, but improved).

he looked good

Tomato Can - Decent win but let's not go nuts. Tokoro is nearly 40 years old and was probably outweighed by 20 pounds.

I don't get it.

TheAlchemist - Is Tokoro top tier competition? Not anymore. But he's a solid journeyman opponent for anyone. Kron did well against a savvy vet. Phone Post 3.0
This. It's Kron's 3rd fight. That's a huge step. Phone Post 3.0

TheBearStare - pretty sure kron will never come to the ufc. he can remain undefeated, defend dad's legacy, and make money in japan

That is OK, not everyone belongs in the UFC and not everyone's goal should be the UFC belt.

Yes it should.

Peope saying "not bad for his 2nd or 3rd fight" are deluding themselves, he has been training MMA for 2 1/2 years, and has a lifelong BJJ background.

Most people have their first several fights within a year of their first one, not year jumps in between each.

Prize fighters goals is to win money, not to win UFC gold. That is the reason PRIDE was so popular in the first place, despite being created years after the UFC.

Also, there's the issue of rules. Kicks and knees to the ground plus the 10 minute r1 rules favour the Gracie style, at least in their minds, to the point of rejecting the unified rules. Keep in mind they still think fights should have no time limits.

Furthermore, Kron and his father share a link to the Japanese scene that is unlike other regular mixed martial artists. I would be totally fine with him having his entire career over there and I suspect both him and his father would be OK with that as well.

So long as Rizin is alive, Kron would make much more $ in Japan than in the UFC. Rizin is trying to leverage Kron in the same way Pride used superstars like Rickson to build a base. Hopefully it can continue to build momentum, and isn't a bust like Dream was.

I think he's comparing that amount of weight gap to the embellished claims Conor has repeatedly made about nate, claiming to have beaten "the 30lb heavier man" -- when we now know Nate weighed 176lbs leaving his hotel room on the way to the fight.

I don't think you have any real basis for saying that. The UFC was supposedly offering Fedor much more than Rizin did. Maybe Rizin will offer Kron more while he's still a noob with a last name that's well known with Japanese fans, but ultimately UFC (and even Bellator) have more financial muscle.

Don't think I embellished all that much. Tokoro is a 135er who would barely be cutting any weight to make 145. Kron is around McGregor's size and would be dropping 15-20 pounds to make 145. I'm actually shocked he made it to 145 to begin with, I always assumed he'd fight no lower than 155 since he always competed at 77 kg (169.4 pounds) in ADCC.

LOL@ deluding themselves. Fighting Hideo Tokoro in a 3rd career pro fight and smashing him is a very significant step. No matter how you want to slight it. Phone Post 3.0

Sure but I think I'm going to hold onto them for a while.

On another note silly talking about Kron fighting in the UFC.

Unless the current rules change and judging improves.

I'd be shocked if Kron ever fought in the UFC.

Ever.

I agree, you didn't.  I was just attempting to interpret his Conor comment.

I was face to face with Kron at IBJJF Pans one time.  Granted it was 3 years ago, but he hasn't changed drastically since then.  I'm 180 in a gi, and although Kron was probably 2" shorter than me, I considered him to be bigger than me.  Certainly the same size -- and at that tournament he was in the same weight class as i was, albiet black belt in his case.  Anyway, your point is valid.  Kron is big compared to Tokoro.  I figure Kron to be a decent sized 55er, and very big 45er (or even bigger 65kg)
