you said: "In fact, strength usually trumps technique and tactics."
Keep on believing that! Lol! I can't tell you how many people who went into the fight believing that only to end up getting "whooped" by someone smaller and weaker than them.
For every one of those events, there's a skinny kid learning jiu-jitsu who tried to sub a bully, who got picked up and slammed onto their head.
Why are you guys getting carried away with fantasy school yard or bar street fighting scenarios when the OP is asking about lifting for the SPORT of MMA?

Hi! Welcome to the Internet!
^LOL, I guess I should know better
I think there's truth in both statements. Lighter weight guys get smashed by heavy opponents with only rudimentary fighting knowledge. If you ignore strength training you get battered like Nate Diaz did in the last card. He really needs to fill his frame with usable muscle, he would be a force to be reckoned with. For me, bench/military press, squat, deadlift is enough if trained properly. Hypertrophy set immediately followed by a depleted explosive set without rest period is what you should be training ala Chaimberg. simple stuff, and very quick if you do it properly :-)
currymuncha - LOL at you guys arguing about tech vs Horse power.
Try to be the best you can be at both.
Obviously.

I was just giving an example of why you can't rely on technique alone.

Then whats the point of this thread?
Finding exercises that will carry-over well into MMA...
