Lloyd is a freak on the mat. He doesn't age.

ttt. Thanks.

I was at a tournament about 5 years ago in Va Beach. Lloyd had a superfight against a guy from Brasil.

Lloyd was using alot of his judo stand-up and the opponent couldn't do anything. He got frustrated and threw a punch at Lloyd. Immediately 100 grapplers converged on the mats. Chaos. Lloyd shouting 'let's go out on the beach and finish it Rio style". Needless to say the opponent chose not to go outside.

The match was declared a double DQ.

Anyone that was there please add details.

I was right there at the edge of the mat. I think this was 01 or 02. The Brazilian black belt was Paulo Castro, if I recall correctly. There was some issue with one of them getting his fingers caught inside the others gi or something like that. I thought Lloyd would have wrecked that guy if it had come to a real fight. However, the tournament was run by Gustavo Machado, a Barra guy (and a very nice guy, in my opinion), and there was a pretty significant Barra presence there. Lloyd wasn't the household name he is today, and my impression was that he probably would have been mobbed by an unfriendly crowd if the issue hadn't been squashed.

I don't really remember any other details, but I was videotaping it and showed the video shortly thereafter to a Brazilian black belt who's reaction was that Castro was to blame for the whole thing.

I'd like to see that vid, too.

Unfortunately it was my friends camera, and I didn't keep a copy :(.

Is that why they call you Bubba ?

Of course I added the "Rio style" part to make it more exciting !

Anyone in the DC area should check out the Lloyd Irvin school in Arlington Va run by Jeff Ruth.

They were going to go outside and settle it but Lloyd wanted way too much money, and extra if leglocks were allowed.

Lloyd is an amazing competitor, teacher, and coach....kudos to him for competing.

It's still a great achievement, but it should be noted that he won his black belt division in the Senior 1 category.

I think he just doesnt like doing privates...nothing wrong with pricing himself out of 99% of the market.
