Lytes Out Podcast with Tony Galindo (More Lion's Den Lore)

LOL

Yep
And the sky is blue.

Does Ken talk about his training sessions in his books?

You’re Ken’s biggest fan on here, I’ve seen your posts. I’ve also seen and heard a lot of guys questioning Ken’s ability to fight. My comment was meant to convey that lots of people are unaware of the damage Ken has done to lots of fighters.

In what way?

The tryouts are famous and a lot about them.
Some specific exercises.

The Snowden book has the most “horror stories”… like Ken beating Oleg so bad in training that Oleg locked himself in the bathroom and cried for an hour.

Well,if he talked about kicking fighters ass in training,I would think that he would mention the training with Coleman.

I wasn’t being a dick, more like funny.

Those who question Ken’s ability to fight are usually just haters.
His ability is obvious to anyone who even halfway paid attention.

That said…there is an aspect of Ken being a “gym monster” for sure.

In terms of Ken being a “badass” in general – he had a heavy street fighting background and also was undefeated in Toughman competitions prior to MMA.
Basically he was always mixing it up.

I wouldn’t necessarily say I’m Ken’s biggest fan here.
Maybe back in the day.
I’ve kind of gotten past the point of being a “fan” as I get older.
I just like people to keep things accurate.

That should be a good one too. Definitely going to check that out.

These Lion’s Den episodes have been great.

I hope they lead to a Ken Shamrock episode soon

He did mention in the last book that Coleman couldn’t take him down.

Beyond that I haven’t heard him directly bragging about kicking anyone’s ass in training. Like the Oleg story it came from other people who were there.

I’ve seen Coleman interviews about training there where he doesn’t mention knocking Ken down either.

The most detailed account I have seen is from a fighter who was there and willing to put his name on it.

Vernon was in Chula Vista at the time, and I’m positive that Mike will ask that question.

I watched some clips of Ken on Vlad TV recently. Both he and Frank seem overall happy and content on the past, present and future. Hope you guys get them.

VLAD TV style: So…you did coke, then got KO’d and I see you go divorced…how did that go?

Frank has already been on the Lytes Out Podcast.

The first Coleman LOP interview mark talks about it publicly the same way that he told me privately

Let’s also keep in mind that no one…. Let me repeat that no one! Stopped Coleman from taking them down.

Randleman was a 2x national champ and Mark took him down 4-5 x’s a practice
Kevin never got a single take down on mark in their 15 years of training together.

Mark was almost 50 before anyone took him down in an mma fight

Usman has a long way before he takes that record

Well peak Ken was no slouch in the TDD department.

I wasn’t there so all I know is what people say.
We had Ash Bowman on here saying what he said and people have backed him up.

Hopefully Vernon does shed some more light because this has been a conversation for years.

I just wish they could have fought when both were at their peaks. One of the fights I wish had happened.

I don’t think Vernon White had the talent to be the Jon jones of that era. He didn’t have the wrestling or frame but he was a well rounded and tough fighter.

Yes but Ken has liked to lie a bit. He still
Insists to this day that he could have finished Oleg in their “super fight” with a leg lock but he chose not to because he was managing Oleg for Pancrase fights and didn’t want to maim his fighter. Give me a fucking break.

I like Ken, he was a huge personality in the early days of mma BUT he never matched the hype in the octagon. I don’t even like thinking about the second half of his mma career

The Oleg training story wasn’t coming from Ken, it was the other LD fighters Snowden interviewed.

Ken said he didn’t want to leg lock Oleg because Oleg wouldn’t tap and he didn’t want to injure him.
Was he kind of making an excuse there?
I suppose it sounds like it.
It’s definitely a fight Ken should have finished, so anything he says is going to sound like an excuse IMO.
But the idea of Oleg being a guy that would not tap is kind of common knowledge.

Side note about the Oleg fight:
Some of the LD guys said Ken had done ecstasy the night before the fight, and it was still affecting him during the fight. Said they could see it in the way his eyes were fluttering or something like that.
Now if you up had told me that years ago, I would have been skeptical – but after reading the Snowden book, it’s not surprising at all.

Crazy.

Ken’s life is like a Mickey Rourke movie…only crazier.

Would make a hell of a movie for sure.

Just listened. Incredible interview. His take on Bob Shamrock was interesting.
