Machida was boring not impressive

I enjoyed the whole fight. I loved watching Machida fire off those leg kicks and his knees. I don't know what some of u MMA fans need for it to be "exciting". I guess if both guys don't charge each other like raging bulls then it's a "boring" fight. Phone Post

lol @ people blaming inaction on machida, the only guy who attempted any offense in the first.

to people saying if bader fought the same way as machida would have been worst fight ever--think about what bader did in the first round compared to machida. now if machida would have fought like bader--that is a boring fucking fight.

MarcusRenatoBlackBelt - I wish Machida would be busy like Forrest. He keeps a great pace. It seemed like Machida doesn't war and is un-motivated.

This is an ideal comment for a facepalm .gif

^^ unless i was just trolled. If that's the case...

/applaud

you got me.

St Louis Stroke - Machida wasn't impressive one bit! He sat back, had no octagon control, just waited for Bader, who was more active to come in! Machida showed no aggressiveness, and if Bader did the same, it would've gone down as the most boring fight in history! Was it a nice KO, heck yeah! But Machida wasn't impressive in the least bit! Shit, I'd rather see Vera and his heart loss again to Jones! At least he came to fight! <img src="/images/phone/apple.png" alt="Phone Post" border="0" style="vertical-align:middle;"/>

Since93 - If bader didn't rush him it would have been worse than verdun vs arlovski.

Just watched bitches. Was busy sat night.

This guy makes a good point and people in this thread should really shut the fuck up and nod their heads to what the TS is saying here. Machida took a counter-striking style against a timid striker in Bader, which created a rather bland fight until Machida landed a counter to put Bader to sleep. That is simply telling the truth. People need to pull their heads out of their ass and just admit that, without that awesome counter, the fight wasn't really that action-packed up to that point, which is fine. I'm an MMA fan, I enjoyed it, but I can see how a casual fan would not. It doesn't change the fact Machida is awesome though, but the fight to that point was not a jaw-dropper like the others on the card.

The casual fans voted for him last night.

If you are talking about the poll they showed after the main event, it was open before the main event. If you had the option of a counter punch KO and whatever your best guess would be, would you choose whatever your best guess would be?

I wasn't bored by the Machida/Bader fight though. I think both Machida and Shogun looked great. Both fights and fighters were entertaining. I'd like to see the rubbermatch at some point. Even though I believe Shogun should have won the first match.

more forrest/bonnar!

I disagree w/OP.

Is the MMA fanbase and therefore the UG membership becoming flooded with idiots?

Machida was brilliant and obviously leagues ahead of box/wrestler bader. You witnessed a highly skilled karate exponent and you were not impressed. WOW.

FixedPartialArts - Boring and impressive are not mutually exclusive terms.

In addition, boring is a subjective term. I find Machida's methodical approach interesting. He's elusive with a purpose to bait his opponent into making a mistake he'll capitalize on. As opposed to some guys (like Guida) who are elusive to run out the clock.

Good post Phone Post

Yeah, theres a good (and bloody obvious) distinction between "elusiveness" from Machida and Guida.

Guida's strategy seemed to just run around all 5 rounds. Machida's gameplan is to counter and he has nearly dropped all of his UFC opponents in doing so. I do agree that in the past Machida was a bit too methodical and non-engaging so I can understand some of his opponents frustrations and fans thinking he wasnt the most exciting. However, within 2-3 rounds, he is usually finding the mark and connecting with great shots on his opponents. Against Rampage though it cost him as he waited too long.
