"We always want the knockout or the submission," Machida said at the post-fight press conference, "but Mousasi is a tough fighter, a former champion in the U.S. and Japan, so when you fight a guy like him a small detail can make the difference. It was a tough fight."
Machida may need some time off to heal his foot, since he believes he may have broken it in the third round against Mousasi.
"My foot is a little sore, it’s hard to walk," he said. "I don’t know if it’s broken or not, I’ll have to check it later in the hospital. It hurts a little."
With a 2-0 record in the middleweight division, "The Dragon" wants a shot at the winner of Chris Weidman vs. Vitor Belfort next.
"I’ll be ready for the title," he said.
"I’m already thinking about the title, but it’s up to the UFC. They have great fighters, like Jacare. It’s their decision, and I’ll be waiting."
If UFC president Dana White decides to match Machida vs. Ronaldo Souza, who defeated Francis Carmont at UFC Fight Night 36 co-main event, he will take the bout.
"This division has a lot of great fighters," Machida said. "I wouldn’t want this fight, but if they want it we’ll have to fight."
The guy is the most unique fighter in history. Just amazing. I am not denying him his credit as an all time great anymore.

Machida is gonna figure a way to beat everyone. Just amazing talent.
Machida vs Souza is the viable fight. Both were considered by a lot to be the #1 contender if either won in spectacular fashion.
Machida got the short end of the stick when Joe Silva made this fight. Both are counter fighters, and everyone was expecting this to be a nasty fight. I enjoyed the chess battle, and how Machida was always 3 moves ahead, poor Mousasi looked lost in that fight.
Jacare looked very impressive against a very talented Carmont, who fought off every submission, many of which would have caught a lesser fighter.
The pressure he applied to Carmont is exactly the fighter you need against Machida, and Machida is the fighter you want against someone that is aggressive like Souza.
I think the winner between them should fight for the title.

We agree on this one! Machida is the guy I always look forward to watching the most. Still fascinates me with his striking at this level. I like Mousasi too but he just didn't have an answer. Machida looks great at 185. I remember him weighing in a few times at 201 or 202 when he fought at 205.
