I found a couple ol skool DVD's titled "Extreme Fighting". I'm watching the first one and it took place in Wilmington, North Carolina. Ralph Gracie fought in it as well as Mario Sperry. They are claiming Mario Sperry to be 272-0. I'm pretty sure thats bullshit no matter how they look at it because he's lost to some big namers in vale tudo and BJJ however this event took place in the early 90's judging by the amount of hairspray in the crowd and could've been before he lost.
If its true, you would think he'd been mentioned up there with Rickson and some other legends but he doesnt get much atttention compared to others.
I mean, we all know that to be legendary you have to be at least 4-2 right.....?
*waits for argument over whether he tapped or not"
rickson at 400-0 still edges him just a bit tho
keiths - *waits for argument over whether he tapped or not"
HE WAS WIPING THE BLOOD OFF ON THE MAT BRO
I'd like to see some of this old footage...
Sperry is undefeated in awesomeness.
BenBJJ - Sperry is undefeated in awesomeness.
his Mama is pretty awesome as well, she knows a lot of side mount escapes and transitions
I remember ordering that show as a kid.
It was supposed to take place in Brooklyn but was moved a few days before because of political pressure.
Haha, I have them somewhere. One of them has mr t on the cover and I THINK he does some commentating if I remember. It's been YEARS since I've watched them.
Mr T was the backstage interviewer for the first show.
xcouturefan - I remember ordering that show as a kid.
Me too.
MMA was at a unique and cool stage back then.
There are 2 Mario Sperry's one before Igor Zinoviev and one after..... by his own admission.
Its pretty funny watching this video. The production is shit and Mr T is the backstage interviewer but you cant hear any sound. You also can see the commentators talking as they look into the camera Rogan and Goldie style but their sound is silent as well.
I know we all complain about the crowds booing and being pretty retarded when it comes to watching fights, but these old crowds from the early events are absiolutely brutal. If a punch isnt thrown every 2 seconds they start booing. When Carlson Gracie Jr fights some unknown guy, the guy comes out with his hands wrapped and the ref cuts it off before he starts the fight and somebody in the crowd yells out "Cheater!". People start yelling stuff back and forth in the crowd and then some chick yells at the Gracies "Go back to Mexico!".....LOL gotta love them late 80's early 90's white trash bishes.
Mario was caught in a guillotine and was in the guard on top when he did the blood check/tap sequence.
I dont think he was actually 272-0 in BJJ though either. Although he had a sick record.
John Perreti already admitted to making that up^^
i for one loved the Extreme Fighting shows..sure, the production was shit but i enjoyed Perettis brutally honest fightcalling and the matchups were ahead of their time...
i was pissed when Ralph Gracie punked out against Eugenio Tadeu in extreme fighting 4..
Before there was any record keeping, promoters would ask a fighter to guess at some combined fight sport record, so you got some kind of crazy numbers from some of the top names in the game. Was a different time, and d=not really fair to compare to now.
I once asked Sperry about that back when he posted on here and I think his response was "yeah, that record was BS."
Kinda really respected the dude for laughing about being billed as a 272-0 fighter.
Supposely he was 272-0 in Sport BJJ from Blue belt to Black belt, we saw what happen on that night in 1995
