Matt Hughes is +175 vs Diego???

jjj2121 -  I could argue that Hughes is even striking, the better wrestler, and the better submission grappler.

+1. This is a good bet at those odds.

Diego wins this easy.

Two different eras.

Hughes all the way man...new era is gonna get smashed by an old school farm boys work ethic. Phone Post

superCalo - I would wager a good country breakfast that Matt Hughes will whup that mexican like a hog wearning no britchs, that boy done gone and riled up Matt Hughes and hes gunna teach to respect a farming folk.

Man up and put your money where your keyboard is

A couple of years ago I couldn't even imagine this fight being made. I'd say it's gonna take 15 min either way, w/ either diego winning on the feet or hughes on top w/ some methodical GnP. I don't think it could really go any other way

I like Diego in this fight but think he's too big of a favorite. Hughes is a slow starter and Diego starts fast. So I think the chance of Hughes getting clipped early is very real. But if Hughes can weather the initial storm he has a very real chance of winning this fight.

He's much better then Diego but he's getting old and I don't think he's that motivated. Diego has said this is dream fight and it doesn't mean anything close to that much to Hughes. He's more interested in his hunting show then he is MMA. I wonder how much he is even training now that the HIT squad has changed ownership. I think the new gym got him going again for a bit but that didn't work out for him and I just don't know where he will find motivation these days. Probably just fighting for a paycheck but I don't think he really needs the money.

Diego will beat him decisively.

Hughes is only fighting for a paycheck now and has no real hunger left. He's lost his explosiveness and aggression and will get outworked and controlled most of the fight.

I wouldn't be shocked at all to see Sanchez finish him either.

THis is a useless senseless fight.

Diego will win - for all the wrong reasons.

But why the hell is Matt Hughes fighting Diego Sanchez???

I believe the line will change in Hughes' favor as it gets closer to the fight.

Because diego is known for gassing?

no because Hughes just grinds on people and beats them it is what he does. When he gets beat someone catches him with a big shot or a sub normally early. Once he gets going his record pretty much speaks for itself. Hughes has never lost a decision he's never lost a fight that went past the second round.

GSP is pretty much the only guy to ever control Hughes and beat him without catching with him something. Granted both of those fights only went to the second round but it was obvious GSP was in control and it was likely going to stay that way.

Masaaki Monkey - Hold on a minute Matt Hughes doesn't have any tattoos does he? gotta go with Hughes then. <img src="/images/phone/post_tag.png" alt="Phone Post" border="0" style="vertical-align:middle;"/>

not any you know of lol

jjj2121 -  Win or lose, I am not ordering steak at Dennys.

BE smart and don't order anything at Denny's. Don't even go to Denny's.

Anaranjado - Diego isn't going to clip shit. Hughes got knocked out by BJ Penn. Different level of a fighter right there.

Sanchez was controlled by Hathaway, Fitch, Koscheck. All of them are just like Hughes.

Using MMA math, Diego got a worse beating from BJ than Hughes did.

BJ just has Hughes number. The first win was a direct result of Hughes being hurt from a punch as well.

Haadogei - Diego is a guy who people pick to lose every time he fights - but he doesnt. Hughes is very old and had his hands full with Matt Serra.....and that was like 2-3 years ago already.

Diego has done much more in the sport in the last 3-4 years. I would still bet a small amount on Hughes, he has a shot to LNP but the talks of steak dinners are dumb. This mentality of betting on old champions probably cost most UG bettors a small fortune over the years. its poor betting logic.
Diego lost his last fight.

Moreover, I think your whole post is nonsense.  Name some of these "every time he fights" that people picked Diego to lose when they shouldn't have.  If you say Kampmann I'll laugh at  you.

he fought an even fight vs a guy who is a top 15 welterweight. So he "lost" to a lot of people. Blah. Kampmann would finish Hughes in 1 round.

Hughes has beaten Almeida, Renzo and Serra in the last 3-4 years.....very unspectacular performances too.

Diego was picked by fans to lose to Thiago, Guida, Stevenson, Karo and Diaz. True many of his fights are close or debated but the fact of the matter is he is fighting tough, close fights with top 30 welterweights and lightweights.

Hughes hasnt had a good win since the 2nd Penn fight and that was flukish with the rib injury. His last good performance against a top 30 welterweight was probably when he beat GSP which was 5 or 6 years ago.

He didn't fight an even fight with Kampmann, he got his ass completely kicked.

Diego was a heavy favorite vs Guida and Stevenson (around 3-1 favorite for both fights)...and you are going back years for Karo and Diaz.  The Thiago fight was about a pickem at the sports books.

Clay Guida +320 +200
Diego Sanchez -400 -294

Diego Sanchez -291 -340
Joe Stevenson +261 +280

I'm not a forum groupie who picks with my heart.  If I start a thread thinking someone is going to win, I believe it.  Anyone picking guys like Akiyama or Rivera over Bisping simply aren't very smart.

Diego is very tough, he hangs tough but he can be beaten.  Someone like John Hathaway was dumping him on his head not long ago.  Hughes losses are to Penn (x2), Alves, St.Pierre (x2).  Diego Sanchez is a clear drop from those guys.  If Sanchez, who probably shouldn't even be at welterweight, can show up and beat Matt Hughes, I think Hughes should call it a day.

I can't speak for other posters, only myself.  I think this bet has a ton of value.  I bet Diego to beat Guida FWIW.

Haadogei - i surrender, you may very well win. you make fair points.

All I know is I tend to lose this type of bet, when the odds are against the older legend I tend to bet that guy and he comes up short.

I feel the Nog Schaub fight will be a similar scenario, I will have an urge to bet Nog but he will probably not pull out the win.

I had Cain in the Nog fight at even odds...loved loved loved it.

I'm not always right, but I like to think I can keep my fandom out of it at least when betting.  If I'm picking for fun, I may be a little more biased.

Wow that is a very surprising line. Figured this would be pick-em. Who in the world is betting Diego at these odds? I'm confused how the line got so high.

This is very likely going to go to decision, and Diego doesn't really have an advantage in any area. Hughes aways gets finished when he loses, and Diego's chances of getting a finish aren't great. I suppose he could out-cardio the older man though.
