One of the best to do it. I’m a huge dick rider of his, but what he did to other grown men in a small ring was incredible to watch. He was a generational talent, the Jordan, Fedor, Bonds, Rice of Boxing. Probably the greatest 130 pound fighter of all time. The haters didn’t watch him as Pretty Boy. Just Money Mayweather.
When Floyd created Money May boxing didn’t have big stars, it wasn’t watched outside of the hardcore fan base like it is now. Boxers got their biggest pay days fighting him. He’s the reason we had 24/7 on HBO, PPV fights for boxers today, and boxing consistently on ESPN and Fox networks.
He was definitely a generational talent. I remember seeing his first few fights and told everyone he would be special and said this guy is the next RJJ (not style but speed, reflexes and how he was levels above) unlike RJJ when mayweather aged he didn’t have to rely just on his physical abilities as his technical ability is second to none, probably my second favourite boxer behind a prime Roy jones
At what point in his career did Floyd turn into a more defensive boxer? Like he had quite a few stoppages early in his career didn’t he? Did that transition also coincide with his hand breaks? And then realized he was gonna need more of a persona if he wasn’t knocking guys out?
Looks like a good cast of inductees, just saw RJJ, mosley, cotto, ward, Hopkin and Toney also in there and while never been a fan of womens boxing that much, back in the day Lucia Rijker was a beast compared to the rest and Christy Martin while much more popular and the face dodged Lucia bad.
