Next opponent Gilbert Melendez believes he has the tools to defeat Pettis and isn't worried about any of his striking, kicks included:

“His striking and his kicks and his creativity is awesome, but it’s nothing I fear at all,” Melendez said. “I feel quite confident in this matchup. I feel like stylistically, this is a matchup I’ve been wanting for a long time.

“I think he’s a great guy and creative, but I’m not scared of those kicks at all. I feel I can walk right through them, to be honest. He’s good at what he does, but I think I’m better in a bunch of different dimensions.”

as far as i remmeber when he fought Sanchez and he threw a couple of body kicks it looked like they did some damage on his body, and pettis is much better at kicks.

I don't think he can walk through them that easily, that said I hope Gil wins!

Cerrone, Lauzon, & Henderson are all durable as hell and his kicks fucked all of them up badly. If he thinks he can just walk through Pettis's kicks, it will prove to be a mistake. He should be 100% focused on not getting hit with them, not proving his toughness. Phone Post 3.0

One should not underestimate Pettis kicking ability. Cerrone crumbled, he was hurt badly by those body kicks, as was Bendo. Lauzon and Castillo were both brutally finished by head kicks.

Pettis has not only creative and beautiful kicks, but powerful as well.
