Busta, Wallid and Fabio the General vs. LL. Always bugged me how those guys and Carlson weren't given any credit on those GIA tapes.

Rorion is a scheming bastard

Wow, it's incredible how BAD takedowns were before people started crosstraining.

Kai Tremeche - Wow, it's incredible how EFFECTIVE bad takedowns were before people started crosstraining.

 Not corrected, just augmented  ;-)

Also ya got to remember...against 99.9% of the population even the shittiest takedown taught at the local TKD saturday morning grappling class is going to work almost all the time

^^^ Exactly my point

Gotta love the Brazilian crowd, they're going nuts

The best part about fighting in a ring and these old fights is the potential and actual instances of fighters falling out of the ring. Or trying to escape!

Don't know if they were effective per se.  Looks more like the guy on the bottom was pulling guard midway through the attempt.

Exactly. Those were some shitty takedowns and even shittier sprawls.

and the crowd attacking the fighter who falls out!

Didnt watch the clip but Busta went on to eventually take down guys like Lindland, Hendo and Rampage.

Darell Gholar was employed as a wrestling coach for BTT back in the day.

Busta was without a doubt one of the most complete fighters of his time.

well takedown defense was bad then too :)

Busta has to be one of the most complete fighters of all time. Great jiu-jitsu, great wrestling and pretty good standup (boxing) as well, at least good enough to bang with Rampage, Hendo and Lidell. There are really very few guys that can make that kind of claim today even.

Yeah, lots of these shows allowed a certain number of rope escapes - there was a tape trading guy who had a Geocities site back in the day that listed all the show rules and any special match rules for the tapes - I wish I would have saved it.

god busta was the SHIT son!

he definitely would have taken at least 2nd place in his weight class on tuf this season.

Many thought he beat Liddel. Same with Rampage. Same with Hendo in the Bushido final.

Either way, all 3 of those fights were close enough to debate.

Also, Hendo is just a banger. He got Busta later in the fight, which is what Hendo does and props for that bt Busta is a much more sound striker than Dan.

Aside from BJ, his either most complete counterpart from that era, yes, to this day, there are few fighters that were as good as he was in all 3 ranges of the game.
