Another boxing spectacle for 2021 is in the books. Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul fought eight full rounds, which based on the modified rules, means there is no official winner.
The two men, however, are both taking home quite a chunk of pageantry money. The undefeated Mayweather reportedly could net around $100 million while the 26-year-old Paul, whoâs had one professional fight on his record, could bag around $20 million.
Mayweather vs. Paul once again highlighted the huge disparity in fighter pay between boxing and mixed martial arts. It is something that reigning UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou decided to point out as he was likely watching everything take place.
âThe Predatorâ went on Twitter and had this to say.
I think the first thing is that Logan is much, much more interesting than Ngannou. He certainly doesnât do anything to make himself more popular. Ngannou is almost painful to listen to when heâs talking.
Whale , Youâre not Wrong , Gannou Is No Youtube Entity
If he could get tens of millions of people from Africa or wherever to follow his every move then this comparison would be legit.
false equivalency. The Paul Broâs have so many social media followers that allows them to get paid that much because their followers will purchase their ppvs and anything else they do. The Paul bros can go do competitive jet skiing and make a shit ton of money if they felt like it but they chose boxing.
No one in the UFC outside of Conor would mean much to advertisers the way that the Paul Broâs do. It is an unfortunate fact but it is what it is.
This
Conor laid the blueprint out for these guys and they still donât get it. There will never be a huge mma fan base so if you want big money you better be interesting enough to make average people watch. You have to create fomo in the general population. If you canât, youâll be lucky to make a couple million per fight. It has absolutely nothing to do with who is the better fighter because most people couldnât care less.
The only fighters that figure this out are the females who go to Onlyfans. The rest of the fighters keep bitching and wondering why neophytes in other sports make more when coming over and it is because of the amount of advertising traffic that these people can generate.
The Paul Broâs have a built in following at this point that will make them successful no matter what it is they do. They have done this through years and years of social media videos and marketing. One video they put up can generate more traffic than any Ngannou highlight reel. It is a sad fact but the quicker these mma dopes come to this realization the quicker they can stop complaining.
This.
Also, donât understand what his PR team or management doesnât understand about this.
Anyone who thinks the UFC, with their ESPN deal and VENOM deal, along with all their other sponsors, donât have the money to pay these fighters âPaul Bros Moneyâ is a simp cuck who doesnât know jack tiddly.
UFC fighters make about 16% of the total revenue.
It should be half MINIMUM.
Baffling that fighters donât know that fame is way more marketable than actual fighting ability.
If Britney Spears or justin Bieber jumped into boxing tomorrow theyâd make more than francis.
Baffling how many fighters just canât grasp this.
Just stop with non sense. You think other sports like baseball, basketball, hockey or football sign athletes based on Twitter followers?
The is no money in jet skiing.Tops is $50,000 a year (a whole year)
Laughable that you think you or anyone else should determine the profit sharing breakdown for a private business. I have zero respect for this type of opinion.
Francis has access to go to the UFC performance institute. All the UFC fighters have free access anytime they want. They can get nutritionists, physical therapists, etc on the UFCâs dime. The UFC has lawyers, publicists, marketing experts and tons of other people getting paid behind the scenceâs keeping the company growing. A lot of open fight and mid card level fighters are getting paid decent money too. Boxing the main event fighters make almost all of the money. Undercard fighters donât make near the money in boxing as in the UFC. Fighters in the UFC are also guaranteed their pay. Floyd started the model of self promoting and taking the risks and reaping the rewards. He has people who secure all of the sponsors, get the site fees and television deals, etc. Francis can attempt doing it as soon as he fights out of the existing contract he has with the UFC. Outside of Tyson Fury or Anthony Joshua there isnât any fighters out there that he could fight and make anywhere near $20M. Nobody else in the UFC minus Conor or Khabib could make anywhere near that either.
Competitive jet skiing was a joke. It was just too illustrate that the Paul Broâs can go into other ventures and have a built in fanbase from their social media following that will translate to actual money spent. You are confusing entertainment with sports. Combat sports are a hybrid. Look at the boxing celebrity fights and jokers like Butterbean.
How much does Showtime or HBO charge for production? How much split do they do with cable/satellite providers?
Itâs just communist crap. The ufc makes $ but also most $ the first couple years Zuffa had the company.
Workers donât get it.
They want a higher % of the $ the company makes. Do the fighters from bodog and IFL and all the other failed companies share in the LOSS of $ that the founders of the companies lost in running those events?
Communism and socialism make sense to dumb people.
If u do not work with the ufc. Donât sign the contract.
Francis should go make more on his own if he can.
But yeah he may make more money.
But he has no guarantees pay and he could actually LOSE $ when he fights.
To Danaâs credit heâs often said
âIf u can make more on your own then good luck to you, go do it.â
If itâs so easy then how come no ufc fighter doenst just go do it?
I hope they do and I hope francis makes a billion & it spirals into all fighters makin more.
But I donât understand all the fighters saying they deserve more and can make more and not just going to do it.
It would help all fighters everywhere if ngannao & costa start their own business where the fighters make all the $.
No one is against him doing this.
Why doesnât he?
My guess is cause he knows nothing about mma beyond fighting and actually is just trying to scare the ufc into paying him more
