NHB being Banned in Washington Sta

http://www.leg.wa.gov/wsladm/billinfo1/dspBillSummary.cfm?billnumber=6103

Link says it all. The bill passed the legislature, and only needs the Govenor's signature to become law.

Basically, all "Extreme Fighting" events will be banned in the state (including Indian Reservations). Plus, any martial arts or wrestling events (other than schoolastic & NCAA) will need to be sanctioned by the Dept. of Licensing and have a permit to hold an event

well that sucks

Dumb motherfuckers.

How can they ban anything on an Indian Reservation??

Peace-
Cam

The sport being brought down once again. What a tragedy.

weak

What are load of balona!

--------------------

(2) "Boxing" means (({- a contest in -})) {+ the sport of attack and

or disable an opponent, but to win by decision, knockout, or technical
knockout +}, but does not include professional wrestling.

(12) {+ "No holds barred fighting," also known as "frontier fighting"
and "extreme fighting," means a contest, exhibition, or match between
contestants where any part of the contestant's body may be used as a weapon
or any means of fighting may be used with the specific purpose to
intentionally injure the other contestant in such a manner that they may not
defend themselves and a winner is declared. Rules may or may not be used.

{+ (4) No amateur or professional no holds barred fighting or combative
fighting type of contest, exhibition, match, or similar type of event, nor
any elimination tournament, may be held in this state. Any person promoting
such an event is guilty of a class C felony. Additionally, the director may
apply to a superior court for an injunction against any and all promoters of
a contest, and may request that the court seize all money and assets relating
to the competition. +}

It is sure good to know that boxers aren't trying to hurt each other. It is like happy pillow fighting. :)

Promoters in WA and OR need to get together and support each other on this.

ttt for frontier fighting

From the listing above: its a bullshit pollitical waste of legislation.

Here in Utah they banned "Ultimate fighting" (the actual term used in the legislation) a decade ago. We still have shows on a regular basis, including one show that is televised weekly.

Take the posted line above :

------------------------------------

No holds barred fighting," also known as "frontier fighting" and "extreme fighting," means a contest, exhibition, or match between contestants where any part of the contestant's body may be used as a weapon

---------------------------------------

notice the "any part of the contestant's body may be used as a weapon" section?

Outlaw vertical elbow strikes. Problem solved.

Part 2:

-----------------------------

"No amateur or professional no holds barred fighting or combative fighting type of contest, exhibition, match, or similar type of event, nor any elimination tournament"

------------------------------

The problem here is two-fold:

1. the phrase "or similar type of event"

Essentially this outlaws boxing exhibition matches as well as NHB. It does not clarify NHB Exhibition . . . it just says exhibition. This is a big looser in court, it'll just take someone with the pockets to fight it.

2. the phrase "elimination tournament"

A high school wrestling tournament is an elimination tournament. Single elimination, double elimination, take your pick. High school wrestling is still a combative sport that utilizes elimination tournaments.

This is purely a political piece of poss-worthy posery.

One person/promoter will get busted. That person will fight and the law will be overturned.

It still sucks that politicans waste taxpayer money like this in an attempt to solidify their own political futures without actually doing anything that benefits their constituents. IMHO another example of the breakdown we as a country are experiencing in our political system.

and look at how many good fighers fight out of Wa. what a bummer

This is garbage.

"Pankration" shows will still run... Not covered under the legislation. The have been running Pankration shows for years. Good shows btw.

Basically, they will not be able to market their shows as NHB. Which is a good thing anyways.

Pankration = Point Karate plus Jiu-jitsu right?

Pankration is basically normal MMA fighting.

XP-Magus

What he said. There are basically 2 levels of Pankration. Amateur and Pro. Pro is basically like UFC.

blame bush and the rest of the moral majority

protecting us from life, and all the scary things in it so we can be nice little consumers and give money to companies that hook them large kickbacks

Pankration= MMA.

I personally delivered letters to the sponsor senators and all the senators that sat on the committee that heard the bill. For those of you that went to the legislative site and read (and could understand) the bill, you'd have noticed that in paragraph 18 of Section 1, there is a sub-heading (g) that was added as a direct result of the work of myself, Dennis Hallman and our lobbyist friend, Bob Mack.

'NHB' in it's truest form does not even really exist anymore because ALL orgnaizations have outlawed biting.....that's a barred hold which takes one out of that definition.

If anyone has any questions of someone that knows how this really affects MMA in Washington email them to me at djlastcall@yahoo.com; or to usamixedmartialarts@yahoo.com and perhaps get a response from Hallman himself.
