Kron Gracie vs Charles Oliveira would be very interesting fight!!!
Guy is slick but was subbed twice not too long ago, hurts his stock vs his jits peers.
burner22 -Great from the front headlock, not so dangerous everywhere else. I think of him kinda like palhares- super dangerous but will crumble if things don’t go his way.
nowhere near as fundamentally sound as Maia or jacare.
he should fight Ryan hall next if he is still at 145
You need to check his record. He’s got tons of RNCs, he got the anaconda on Hioki (whos got high level MMA BJJ himself) after Hioki had his back. He had that calf slicer, he is the furtherest thing from a one trick pony.
No, he’s not as sound as Maia and Jacare in the pure BJJ game. But imo he is more dangerous than them because he does not need to get the td. Like Aoki, he can attack from anywhere.
Great subs.
his offensive bjj remind me of Miguel Torres
mata_leaos -Gandhi -Wasa-B -TwentyNineTwentyEight - You guys and this GOAT shit after every show, lol.Ive been saying this about Oliveira specifically for a while. He already has the sub wins record but even before he got it, I was saying he is probably the most dangerous sub guy. Am I caught up in the moment? Or am I right? Take a look for yourself…
No you are right. He has proved he is the greatest submission artist of all time in MMA. There are different styles within BJJ, so he may not be the best BJJ fighter; meaning he’d get beat by guys like Gilbert Burns and Maia in a BJJ match but his offensive style and always attacking the sub whenever possible makes him different. He is just massively underrated and not talked about at all because he doesn’t speak english and has had some weird losses and has missed weight a lot.
Exactly. He’s a quirky dude. He also has some strange losses. he reminds me of Palhares a bit. There have been a couple of instances where of he doesn’t get a sub he will almost get demoralized. He’s dropped some weird losses in ways he probably shouldn’t have lost.
I think his weaknesses as a fighter are psychological more than technical.
He’s a special talent that is overlooked in the grand scheme of things.
He’s one of the best ever at chaining front headlock and back attacks in scrambles. He’ll attack a darce or anaconda and if it fails he spins behind the opponent and locks the RNC right away without even going for a harness grip first. He has some seriously underrated submission chains.
I’ve been doing BJJ for a long time and most people I train with like him but they think of him as an opportunistic fighter more than a classic BJJ guy. Plus he never really had a BJJ career so our guys don’t get excited to watch him fight the way they do with Maia, Davi Ramos, Durinho, Jacare, etc.
Totally agree, I thought the same thing when he didn’t get the sub in the bigger name fights it seemed like he wanted to quit. Maybe he noticed early that he would have a long night trying to strike for strike with those guys and didn’t want to do that.
I also never thought about him not having a long bjj career and thats a reason why he isn't hyped before fights at bjj gyms, but that could also be part of why he is so offensive and if he had a more extensive bjj career before the ufc he could have become more position and point oriented than his style is.
Sometimes when you are very aggressive on going for subs, it makes you easier to get caught in sub. Makes for exciting fights.
Is there a date when Kron Gracie is going to fight in the UFC?
Looking forward to his next fight.
Not disagreeing at all.
But my favourite aggressive sub guy is Joe Lauzon.
Just keeping his name in the conversation.
Also, Cole Miller.
Cole Miller has some great subs too.
Kron Gracie vs Charles Oliveira would be very interesting now!
Kron probably handles Oliveira pretty easily unless the MMA game is so different? Aoki was handled easily by Marcelo too in ADCC but Marecelo wasn’t half the fighter Aoki was in MMA.

If Olivera faced Kron he would without a doubt look to keep the fight on the feet.

I’ve been a massive Oliveira fan since his Octagon debut but he’s not seeing Kron grappling wise. Oliveira may well win that fight but it would be with striking. He’s not subbing Kron. They have very different BJJ styles and Kron’s BJJ style is just a very bad grappling matchup for Oliveira’s style.
Oliveira is very good at catching submissions in transitions and scrambles. Kron’s BJJ is a more traditional, but the pressure and intensity of his style tends to give the former style a lot of problems.
And not that it means anything in MMA but Oliveira never really did any significant competitive grappling. Kron Gracie is one of the only people to win ADCC by subbing every opponent.

100% this

No doubt. Joe Lauzon, Cole Miller, and Chris Lytle were all awesome submission fighters.
MitchTomes -Also, Cole Miller.
cole had some amazing subs. I cornered him in his fight against Jeremy Stephens. I was heartbroken he lost that fight. he was putting on a bjj clinic. I remember hearing Stephen's ankle popping from from leg locks, and him gurgling in a triangle. I couldn't believe he didnt tap. Cole's legs ended up gasping out from triangle attempt and he got tkod. still it was awesome to see such high level bjj...
I would really love to see Kron Gracie vs Charles Oliveira.
