Prime Coleman vs prime Ken?

theshooter - "he dodged a lot of top fighters of his era by being in the WWE"

Ken did not go to the WWF because he was dodging fighters in MMA. He went to the WWF because they paid him a lot more money than he could have made in MMA at the time.

It was actually good for MMA that he did that stint in the WWF, because he brought more attention to MMA, which was good for the bank accounts of MMA promoters and other MMA fighters.

There’s no disputing this

You’re going to get called out on your statement due to the poor word choice.

I CLEARLY stated Im not implying he ran, but he did dodge (miss, avoid, NOT FIGHT) a lot of the best because he went to the WWE for the payday, and there is nothing wrong with that. Going off of his record from his time period, he's clearly not the juggeraunt of destruction that revisionist theorists make him out to be. That's before you talk about worked fights from Japan, to Franklin, to Kimbo with some small shows in between, the odd ball actions in two of the Royce fights etc. If he wasnt jacked and had never went to the WWE, he would likely be as forgotten as many of his contemporaries.

Ken Shamrock is a true MMA pioneer. If he would have retired after the first or second Tito Ortiz fight, he’d be more respected now. He was a better fighter in his prime than some people give him credit for being.

The post WWE version of Ken who fought in Pride would likely have beaten Coleman. Mark would have to work for takedowns, and that Ken was strong AF, could grapple, and had some nice boxing. Baroni, my heart would happen before Petey, my heart.

Ken via TKO on an exhausted Coleman

theshooter - "Yeah and most of those people he heelhooked were wearing giant fucking boots.....oh and most of those fights were fake in an organization that had more fake fights than the WWE."

This is complete crap. There were very few works in Pancrase (you could probably count them on one hand, and probably not use all your fingers).

Pancrase had some highly skilled MMA fighters back in the day.

Yep.

On top of that, we know Ken’s “losses” in Pancrase were due to him putting guys over. Growing pains as they transitioned to full shoot. If you don’t count the tainted dance in Detroit, Ken’s only true loss in the 90’s was to Royce.

The only revisionist are those attempting to discredit how good Ken was in the 90’s.

We ate basically looking at 2 different careers with Ken.

Ken would not have subbed Coleman, just no…Ken was only a submission threat to brawlers like Kimo and only during the first 4-5 minutes of the fight…Coleman would have pummeled Ken pretty badly for the first and second round…Ken would not have an answer for the type of fighter Coleman was…the only truly big guy Ken had in his camp to mimic Coleman was that roused out karate guy, I forget his name…

Ken was great at subs in Pancrase but in mma, he seemed too afraid or simply unable to pull them off when actual strikes are involved in the ground
