rumors re: fights on fox..

so a good friend of mine works on the production side of things and he told me some interesting things regarding the fox card.

he said tat pretty much the first 25 to 30 minutes will be all trying to educate the new fans etc etc and the thing i found the craziest is that supposedly fox doesnt want any blood on the mat when they go live. they have to figure out a way to change the mat in less than 30 minutes prior to airing live and supposedly it usualy takes them at least 2 hours. intersting stuff

thats crap actually imo

i want fights, not to watch a beginners guide to mma

 Interesting about the blood.

There have to be concessions made if they want to grow the sport.

Make sure Joe Daddy and Edwin Deweese are not on the undercard.

Thanks.. Guess I'll tune in at 8:30 Phone Post

make sure u set ur dvr to record the show afterwards to in case the fight goes 5 rds

uhhh...im going live..i hope this is bs

Here is the first step with TV networks fucking with things.

Its a combat sport, you cannot never have blood on the mat.

Some pc suit nitwit at Fox is making this call, im sure.

i seriuosuly was blown away when i ehard that about the blood. u gotta belive the cain fight is gonna be a war and blood will be shed

I had mentioned before that before going mainstream it wouldnt be a horrible idea for someone to create a show on the origins and history of MMA all the way up to what it has progressed to today. and they could integrate the rules and some of the more popular fighters in this show. then show it a week or so before the fights.

It could be used as education for the casual or new fan. as well as to drum up some interest in the sport.

thanks for mentioning that you mentioned it before. That was very important for us.

I like that idea Phone Post

pennviachoke - Its a good thing Fox edits out all the mangled knees/fingers we see in football games, good thing they don't bleed either. Phone Post

Next, Fox will require Soldier field to replace all the missing grass at half time.

Lets hope the introduction to new fans part is just really good highlights.
As for no blood on the mat, make the mat red from the start and no problem.

They could maybe play it off like a special "main event mat," but damn, 2 hours to change it...

They don't want blood on the mat when they go live, that doesn't necessarily mean they aren't expecting any blood to be shed (if they are expecting that, the whole thing is doomed)

It could be more of a prestige thing, a 'fresh' canvas for the televised fight

It can be distracting, before the prelims were being aired free, you'd sometimes see a big dried up bloodbath on the mat at the start of the main card and wonder wtf happened to who earlier in the night

ahahahahahahahaha. May very well be smart, but don't think saying something like "we don't want blood on the mat" to sit over well with people who have been raised on fight sports. DO you think they REALLY know what they are getting into?

Honestly you have to think like someone who has never seen an MMA card before, so I do think they have a point ultimately. Still, it's just a funny and absurd thing.

That sentence actually made me laugh pretty hard.

Dana just tweeted that he's offereing a 10k "don't bleed" bonus to all of the undercard fighters.  Look for a lot a tentative fights!

I can hear the hater response to this already:

"But...but...in a football game, blood is incidental! In those horrible, brutal cage fights to the death, it's intentional! They're trying to hurt each other! Even if there's the same amount of blood, the fact that the blood comes from a fight makes it bad! When football players bleed it's just noble and brave and we're supposed to commend them for continuing to play. When a fighters bleed they're just skill-less savages who are trying to have a street fight!"
