Sanshou in early UFC's

They've tried to promote Draka in the states a couple different times that I know of.

Funny that you mention that Draka is the Russian Pro-San Shou league, since I wondered what the difference with Draka and San Shou was.

Anyways, my point about the worlds vs pro's is that a lot of the Cung hate stems from the fact that he wasn't fighting the best.

The pro level, at least in the USA seems awfully low, and Cung runs around with at least his fanboys claiming he's the world's greatest.

Max

Cung fought (and defeated) China's champion in an event in Hawaii. He fought a shootboxing champ in the US based Draka league (while it still existed). Cung Ko'ed a Kyokushinkai legend at the Shidokan event. Cung went to world championships 3 times.

But since the UG didn't see those events, they just don't exist LOL

Guys, its really hard to guage the amatuer sanshou world championships. Many of the chinese and russians were pro while we only had an amatuer circuit at the time. So it was a big step up for us to compete at an elite level and the worlds.

plus

1) we never had a real head coach

2) we never had a real training camp (except the year that Cung opened his school to the team)

3) the events that were run here by USA WKF sucked, the judges sucked and they didn't have any idea how to help us advance or prepare

When I competed in Sanda it was the funniest time I had in my competition career. I'm only sad that there isn't a professional league in the US that I can compete in.

Are any of those fights online? No luck on youtube.

I remember when they advertised that Draka years ago..The commercial was cool.

The two places where San Da was growing and developing were San Jose, CA and NY, NY. NY's kickboxing circuit got shut down by the commission and the USKBA (who was doing the first pro matches on the East Coast) still hasn't been allowed to do pro events in the state. In CA, apparently San Shou/San da is now ILLEGAL! Go figure! They made it illegal!

It is interesting they are doing MMA in CA but Sanda is illegal.

Why did they make it illegal? Usually has to do with money.

We got a lot of issues with the CSAC out here as you can imagine...

I spoke to the commissioner, Armando something? and the problem is the kickboxing rules were written in like the 1970's under the old PKA ear, where "throws" were illegal. So the law says you can't have kickboxing with throws... sort of making San Shou illegal

I would have loved to see Cung Le fight Liu Hai Long.

TTT

lol, thats an odd thing to ban since mma is kickboxing with throws...lol..hell cung and shamrock was exactly that..

lkfmdc,

King of Sanda #3 watched on TV in China? Not happening.

????

And everybody knows the sport? Yes, quite many know the sport by name but don't follow it.

Disclaimer:
I've lived in China for over three years now, been coming here since 1998, fluent in Chinese, so I probably wouldn't know a sh*t about this thing.

coachmike is a high level san shou guy!

"I spoke to the commissioner, Armando something? "

Armando Garcia fucks up again.

Rorion protected Royce from Chris Dolman, who called out the Gracies many times around the time of the early UFCs. He even sent them a letter asking to fight any of them and they never replied.

That is a FACT.

King of San Da premiered in China in 1998. In 00, 01 and 02 it WAS the #3 watched TV show. Since 02 it hasn't been on TV much at all, oweing to the fact one of the producers stole sponsorship money and escaped to Hawaii
