Very true.
Vernon use to hang out at Stockton Rocks to get chicks & he even became a bouncer there.
I think & I say think that he is a correctional officer now.

It was all in good fun and if I said that they would have dropped my contract and I never would have fought there again. In Japan you have to be careful with your words and attitude
No way he acts like that with this generation of talent lol. They wouldn’t stand for being roughed up and bullied. Suzuki would be in HR hell lol. Cancelled.
It’s not like that there the young boys are basically slaves, beat up every day clean every thing they are on a different level than the veteran fighters
We treated our young boys the same. Beat the shit outta them, they cleaned everything, shaved their heads and learned to become fighters
Bro I don’t know who you are but don’t be an internet tough guy if you would have came to the Lion’s den and said that I’d have broken anything I wanted to. So chill dude and be a regular fighter that doesn’t talk shit on a forum
Have fun being a creep. It’s guys like you that give nhb and mma fighters a bad name.
Well if you just base it on reality Ken wouldn’t have been in ufc1 if I didn’t read blackbelt magazine and answer the ad instead of filling it out I called Art Davies we had a long talk he said right now whose better you or Ken. I said Ken he has been doing that kinda thing in Japan and I just am starting to get better every day. Art said well can you give me Ken’s number and I’ll get you in one down the line. So that’s how Ken was inufc1. Probably down the line he would have heard of it but the big Gracie vs Shamrock never would have happened. Ufc used Ken’s physical image of a bodybuilders type and his talent and went along with that. Made up a super fight for him. Then I got into the UFC then Jason guy, jerry, pete, tra, alex, frank. Now if I didn’t read blackbelt and find that add would have all that happened I don’t know but I do wonder.
Who was the strongest opponent you faced in Pancrase and UFC and why?
Great thread, thanks for posting. Do you still talk to Ken?
What made you decide to stop fighting after the Ultimate Ultimate 95? Did you continue to train much after that?
Scott, don’t let that guy keep you from posting.
I’m an old guy, 52 years, was always involved in martial arts and got into MMA when I saw UFC 2.
Guys today have no idea what it was like then. Finding people to train with, places to train, it wasn’t easy and the sport was brand new. People were still figuring how to train, what worked, and what was bullshit.
The guys I trained with did what we could, and much of that was beating the shit out of each other and anyone who showed up. It wasn’t even close to what the Lions Den did, but the idea was the same - learn to fight by fighting. Take your beatings to learn to give beatings.
Was it the best way for long term health ? No . But it made everyone hard, physically and mentally. You had to have a cruel streak and enjoy hurting people, because you’d get animals off the street coming in to test you.
Hearing the stories about how the most successful team in early MMA did it is great, and for us who have followed the sport since the beginning this is fascinating stuff.
The sport has evolved, for better and for worse, and that’s fine with me. That’s how life is. But today’s guys will never understand the old days and the old ways. It was a special moment in time. In a way, we were pioneers, vikings going to battle. Most , like me, never went far , we trained and fought in little shows and loved it, and that was enough.
Some though, like you, fought at the top. I probably speak for a lot of old timers here - thank you for taking your time to share some of the stories and insights that you have. Sincerely
Tell us about some of the worst beatings you witnessed or took part of while locked up. What led to them and was there payback etc.
Can you tell us anything interesting or hard hitting about the Japanese yakuza?
I know your wife wanted you to earn more money but how exactly did you find bob shamrock’s home for kids, a job listing? Word or mouth?
Can you recognize other sociopaths and if so how many have you encountered in the mma world? I assume you don’t want to name names?
Thanks again for this thread.
Not happening.
A good wrestler with my size having back mount with both hooks in spreading you out will do the trick. You can’t fight with your back.
Crowbar, I believe this all started from an auto correct, I believe Scott meant to type that he had Ken in a toe hold not a tongue hold. That’s why he said ken’s ankle was going to snap so Ken started hitting him.
Actually I should have kept reading and I would have found that out but I jumped the gun when I read it.
Fuck ! This is one of the best, most informative threads on the UG so fuck anyone trying to derail it! Hello Scott!
Some questions for the big guy:
How would you have approached a fight with Igor V.? I would have loved to see you guys clash. Also whats your opinion of Igor as a fighter himself. I also wouldve LOVED to see you throw down with Verlean’s(RIP) back in the day too. Two mountain sized men meeting in the middle til one drops.
You once fought Matt Hume, any opinion/stories of him? He just seems almost like an out of place nerd at the time in the NHB world, but he has skills. Does it tickle you at all to see him still coaching guys to championships today?
Any Joe-Son stories?
Did any of the guys you trained with over the years know your street shit/hired muscle deal or did you seperate those worlds entirely?
Worst beating you ever gave or took IN or out of the cage? And who gave it?
Who was the number one guy you wish they would have given you a shot at?
Even if you answer none of these thank you for being an OG in this sport! If it wasnt for guys like you doing it for the love of the fight there wouldn’t be billionaires pimping it out today…
Who was the douchebag that got banned or had his posts removed?
Hillbo frate train
